JW Trans

Well looks like I am biting the bullet. I am giving John a call tomorrow. Just hope my trans will hold out until he can get me one or I can get to him. I dont know if my truck would make the 600 mile trip though. I figure I will go with the towmaster trans he offers. I dont plan on making my truck high performance so that one should do.

Good luck with all of this Terry. I hope you will keep us updated. If that day arrives for me, I will go with the JW tranny.

Terry, it sure isn't chump change but if you do need a trans, its not getting done by a chump, you'll have a trans done by a pro, period. Like I said before, if mine desides to act up, its a BTS or J. Woods tranny for me, I wouldn't give my truck anything less, me and my family don't need any headaches later on down the road.

Terry, if you can make the drive, it is well worth it. John is a great guy who is quick to share his knowledge and experience.

It was a 9 hour drive for me so I got a cheap place to stay the night before my appointment at Johns shop. I had a lot of fun that day hanging around and just picking his brain.

I would love to drive down and watch him do the job, learn some things in the process. The only thing is I dont know if my truck would make the 600 plus mile trip. I would hate to get stranded half way there.

Nothing's worse than being stuck on the side of the highway with a blown trans. 200 miles from home... don't ask me how I know this.

Called John today, placed an order for the towmaster tranny. Also sending my DP back for reflashing so it is tuned to the new tranny. Biting the bullet was not quite so bitter once talking with John and finally placing the order. Actually somewhat of a weight off my shoulders. Now just have to wait about two weeks before it arrives.

How long does it take him to build a new tranny? BTS did my VB in about an hour. And that was with 30 minutes of he-haw'n.. 6 hours?

In his defence, he is working another tranny now and will be starting mine after. He will be off Thursday and plans to have it shipped by Tues of next week. Then I wait for the shipper to get it here. By then it is about 10 to 12 days counting the weekend. I am not disappointed in this for a time frame.

That's awesome! I just was amazed by the quickness of a VB install. Since it is there craft I wonder what build time is?

That I dont know. Trannies are a mystery to me in alot of ways. I prefer to leave them to someone else. Airplanes are much simpler.
