Headlamp covers getting foggy, '02 F150 Supercrew.

Is there any way to clean up or polish my foggy headlamp covers instead of buying replacements? I don't think it's to the point of impeding my vision at night, but they sure are getting dingy.

Also, any way to spruce up the 'what used to be black' grill? I'm not sure what style you would call my grill, it's not honeycomb, just vertical and horizontal bars with chrome trim and of course the Ford logo in the center.

thanks so much.

Allan.

Eastwoods sells headlight cover stuff, and I've heard good stuff about it, but as for the grille, they aren't the most durable, so if wax (on the chrome) and Armor All (on the black) doesn't help, it may be time for a new one.

If you check with your local glass shop, they will sell you the same kit eastwood has but for less $. There is a plastic specific polish (either power-based you mix or ready to use liquid compound), a buffing wheel that goes in a drill and that's it. After you are done with the polishing, the Polycarbinate lenses need to be clear coated otherwise they will begin turning yeallow/haze very quickly (the oem appllies a coating to prevent this) and the polishing removes what little is left. You can use just about any clear from Krylon crystal clear to a urethane spray.

Mine were pretty bad. Very cloudy and yellow. I took a kit that just required the drill and cleaned them. I can try to find a picture of the kit somewhere, but this was the results I had. The kit worked very well.

Krylon plastic fusion spray paint or duplicolor black plastic trim paint both work real well restoring a factory like appearance to grilles, mirrors, door handles and other plastic exterior trim. Prep/clean well and a couple of coats of adhesion promoter ahead of the finish paint will not only help it stick but will extend its service life. If it scratches, just touch it up. You'll be surprised how much it makes the truck appear newer.
