Who makes the air filter for Ford?

Does International make the air filter like the fuel filters? I'd rather pay for something cheaper than the Benjamins the local dealer quoted me...

Donaldson makes the air filter. Look around online and you'll find them cheaper. Here's a couple links to get you started:

Nice post Brad!

I get mine either from Dieselfiltersonline.com (Brad's second link) or powerstrokeshop.com

That is what is listed in the dieselfiltersonline web site. I have seen a couple of errors on their lists before, so I would not guarantee it. Do some searches and you should be able to confirm it.

Also - be sure to get the filter with the "blue" media. It is the synthetic media that will not clog quickly if you get some moisture on the filter element.

Just out of curiousity.... I was at the dealership today getting a new alternator put on, and I read the owerstroke information center and it states to change the air filter every 7500 miles? Is that correct?

You sure it wasn't 75,000? Or perhaps it was to check the filter minder every 7500?

The manual states to only change it when the filter mider indicates it is time (which is well over 50k miles under normal conditions).

Yeah, you have to be right. I was looking at the fuel and oil filter and it said to change, and I might have misread "check" as "change" when reading the air filter portion. I was just wondering. I knew it couldnt be change every 7500 miles.

There is actualy one guy over at powerstroke.org who works for a performance shop down in Florida that when trying to "sell" one of the benefits of an a/m filter, he states that being able to just clean an a/m filter instead of replacing it pays for itself rather quickly. Of course, he is quick to gloss over the fact that he bases that off swaping out the air filter after every oil change.

I ran across the following info on the Donaldson filter from a Motocraft Tech PDF file:

* Stops 99.99% of contaminants one micron or larger (human hair is approximately 74 microns) and hold over 3 pounds before needing replacement
* Manufactured by Donaldson, using their patented PowerCore design
* Contains twice the amount of filter media versus conventional pleated filters
* Same filter technology as used in the M1 Abrams tank!

When I changed mine, I took the old one apart and checked it out, it seems to be just rolled up cardboard but looks to work very well, no dirt at all seemed to be getting passed it.

I thought the same thing, by just looking at it, it looks like corrugated cardboard, but hey, it works quite well.

Donnalson makes two air filters that are "Powercore" filters and will fit our motors.

Ford went with the blue "synthetic media" for better moisture control, but the white "cellulose" will also work. Both trap dirt the same, but the blue media is what comes standard and is what you will get from the dealer.

The Ford intake on our motors is second to none and will work very well unless you are pushing more HP than most/all of the tuners out there. This is one aspect of our motors that Ford did NOT skimp on!!!!

Here is photo of the blue/OEM air filter:

If you order the Motorcraft model number then you will get the blude media.

If you order from NAPA and get a WIX brand, you may get white (same fit and filtration, but cheaper).

Also... just ask before you order... if they don't know or won't look... buy from someone else.
