Problem removing Crankshaft Spacer

The Truck: 77 F250 Camper Spec. 460 2wd.

Ok I have all the bolts removed from Timing chain cover, water pump is already pulled and the harmonic balancer is off. When I tried to remove the spacer I noticed that it is not lined up with the key way so I tried to to turn by hand and it will not spin only move slightly in and out. I tried to rotate crankshaft by hand with no luck. Any input is greatly appreciated. I am pretty sure it needs to be removed to remove timing cover as old timing cover is corroded through and I have new one already.

you should be able to pull that key out then the spacer should slide right off.

I tried prying the key out being careful to not hurt the crank. It still wont budge. Any suggestions to get it out? And just to make sure we're talking about the same thing. I'm referring to the key in the bottom picture I posted above.

Thanks

yep same key. use a chisel and hit the front end of it at a up angle lightly and it should come out. make sure the spacer is pushed back when you do it.

Ok thanks.. I will give it a shot when I get home. Also If anyone has input I've heard that running a straight up timing set will help out in the power department. Running a early 70's lincoln 460 set is what I was told. Does this sound right?

That's what I needed to do to get the first key out(flat type punch). The early(pre 72)timing gear set is straight up (0 degree). They say it will give it about 20 more hp.

most of the aftermarket roller timing chains are all straight up now. It's actually getting harder to find the emissions sets anymore.
