installed 1st row seats in 2nd row

got some free time on my hands and found a set of matching 1st row seats after a while. i wanted the seats to match and have the full power with butt warmers.
I can count on 1 hand the number of times I had 8 people in the ex. I think losing 1 seat in the 2nd row isn't going to change much. And wifey wanted her seats warm in the up coming winter.

I thought the job would be much easier boy was I wrong. It took us about 12 hours to finish.

First off, getting power to the 2nd row. As I assume both of the 2nd row seats will be on at the same time for butt warming, I ran a direct line from the battery. Running the power to the passenger seat is easy, there are only 3 wires, power seat power, heated seat power, and ground.

The driver seat is a PIA there most have been like 15 wires going into the seat and more than 20 wires coming out of the memory board under the seat. Anyway the seat won't work unless the memory board is working, since I did not want that, I had to trace each wire and bypass them to the memory board that took a long time.

Next up is installing the seats, there is a short version and the long version.
At best you would only get to use 1 of the stock hole on the floor when installing the seat. Now the front seats the front 2 legs are on an about 40 degrees angle. They are not flat, so we bent them flat. With that the seat will only move forward with the power so far before the track hits the front legs because when I bent them they in turn block the track. So if you can live without the seat having the full forward movement you can at this point blot the seat down.

Since I wanted the seats to move with full power I had to bent the front 2 legs of each seat back to the 40 degrees angle. which means I need to custom made some metal brackets to make the seats about 2" higher. I used some 2" square tubing as I did not want the seats to have any chance of failure. This took a long time than lots of drilling. By the time I was done, I was on my 3rd 1/2" drill bit. The drilling was the hardest part, as some of the holes were over the undercarriage cross bars.

Oh great, thanks a lot.......now I'm going to have add this to my wish list.

that's a great idea, the 2nd row captains are not very comfortable anyway. good job though for tackling that, I'm sure it was a PITA.

No, we have one of those hot/cool travel refrigerator that used to be all the way in the back. I am going to put that in between the 2nd row seats as it got cup holders and be able to keep the drinks cold. I already have extra power in the area.

I tried using the ex once to bring home sheet rocks and it was such a PITA with the spare tire where it is now that I gave up. Went out and got an E150 van for $1000 to do all my home depot runs. When we went done with the house, instead of selling the van, I just turned the plates in and now it sits on the drive way and I use it to store all my construction equipments instead of them sitting all over the garage floor. I am still surprised on how much equipments one can fit inside of the E150.
