Dads new 63 F100

My old man picked this F100 up today. Originally from Arkansas, owner drove it to Michigan 22 years ago and its sat ever since. 3 speed on the column, straight 6. Original paint with minimal rust. Back bottoms of bed are rusted off. A few dings and dents but the engine has been overhauled and it has a new clutch. Doors are perfect, floor has a quarter sized hole on the drivers side. Even the seat is perfect, it had a cover on it since new.

Im not crazy about the bed, why Ford kept the old bed with this cab makes no sense. But for a grand he couldnt pass it up. Plans are to get it on the road, no brakes, and just cruise around in it.

That is one beautiful truck. Congratulations on the great find. Be sure to post pictures of it when you get it restored.

The engine has been repainted, as it was not blue originally.

1960/65 Cars/Trucks: The engine was painted black, the valve cover(s) were painted specific colors, because this is how Ford ID'd the engine sizes for garages, body shops.

Ford came out with valve cover paint charts every year that were sent to the dealers.

These charts were then passed along to the dealers wholesale accounts.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Styleside Pickups: 1961/65 F100/250 4WD's, 1961/66 F350's and 1966 F250 4WD's all used the 1957/60 bed.

FoMoCo canceled the Unit-Body (aka Uni) mid-model year 1963, Ford then used this same bed on F100/250 2WD Stylesides.

1963 F100 2WD Production Figures: Styleside Pickup: 76,728 // Unit-Body Pickup: 40,535 // Flareside Pickup: 35,963.

The original engine tossed a rod. New short block was installed for the trip north.

Actually, the "wrong beds" start to grow on you after a while...especially in a dark color.

That is a great series of pictures! I have lived in neighborhoods like that. The old guys come around to talk about a truck they once knew and I really like the picture of the little guy checking it out. There are going to be a lot of neighborhood summits in this garage this winter! Enjoy.

Welcome to FTE from a fellow Michigander. Your pics could have been taken right around the corner from me, this morning!

That is a great start on a project truck. One of my uncles has one just like it, with the "wrong bed" on it too. I don't understand those beds at all. That seat is wild and in incredible shape, don't do anything to it except keep it in good shape.

He got it running today. The points were loose, grounding out on the side of the distrib housing. Fixed that and it fired right up. Runs like a new truck.
