4x4 05 and up 41 axle code...is the front diffy LS?
Hey guys,
I know a 41 axle code on an 05 and up is the 4.10 gear non-limited slip. But this may sound like a stupid question........is that just for the rear gear? When you engage 4X4, is the front differential a limited slip? Or is it open too?
I guess the bottom line is that I'm looking at a 58,000 mile 2006 4x4 CC 6.8 truck to buy, and it has the 41 axle code. After reading some on here, it seems like the stock limited slips wear out easily, so there's probably no big deal that it doesn't have the 4N code (because if it did, it may be worn out already). But what about the front axle? Do they always come in limited slip? Or is the only way to get limited slip up front by having the 4N code?
Another way of asking is if it has the 41 code, and I want LS on it, do I need to do both the rear and front diffys?
I guess I'm wanting the LS because of the winter-time driving I'll be stuck in every year. One wheel peel kinda makes it tough sometimes.
Thanks!!

He's right. Even if the rear axle is equipped with a limited slip differential, the front will always be open.
I may be wrong, but I believe Ford did offer FRONT limited slip in some early Bronco II and Ranger vehicles equipped with the Dana 28 TTB front suspension in the 80s. It was not a common option, yet it was available on regular production vehicles.

Years and Years ago I can recall a guy ordered a full size Bronco,,around a 79',,,one of those with the multi color paint job,,what were they,,,orange, black, purple stripes (something like that)down the sides,,,,anyway he said he got it LS both front and rear axels!! Have not seen that option much at all!

I've heard many times folks talk about LS front but in most all cases they were incorrect. I dont know much about the 80's Bronco 2's and such, would be interesting to see if we can dig up some actual ford documentation that showed LS up front... not that it matters much though - not like I'm really interested in a dana28 ttb! But would be interesting to know.
