What can I tow with my truck
2000 F250 7.3L PSD 8 ft bed Super Crew XLT
Looking at buying a bigger trailer for my race car addiction. want a 30ft tag behind trailer with the front of it a small living quarters.
Can I tow this with my truck?
Other direction is a 5th wheel with similar out fitting.
Which would be better? currently don't have a 5th wheel towing thing in the bed.

just a quick search I found the towing guide for 2002. I would think fairly close so maybe it will help.

I’ve seen some toy haulers that your 914 might fit in.

Speaking of 914’s I sold my 914 a couple of yrs ago, wish I had it back!
I with help from my teenage son (in 1990) put a Buick V6 (small Holly 4 barrel, etc) in it, needless to say it was VERY quick.
I was also VERY quick at changing constant velocity joints.

Car is 14 feet long but need more room than that. Son races a Kart and it goes with us as well.
So I guess I was asking the question wrong. or maybe I am just dumb.
I know how much weight I can tow. So now to figure out how much these 5th wheels weight. Seen some pretty spiffy one's on Racing junk.com
I imagine with my 1700 pound race car and 200 pound Kart extra tires tools fuel etc. I would probably be heavier than the average straight 5th wheel camper.
Some real mice 40 footers on the market.

you are the right track. add all the goodies, subtract from the amount you can pull and then you know the max a trailer can weigh. Don't forget the tongue wt of the trailer. That comes off of the payload capacity of the truck.
so truck payload capacity is minus people, fuel and whatever you throw in the back of the truck and your kingpin wt of the trailer.

[quote=Joe_914;8144276]Thanks. Lots of info there.
12,500 trailer
13,100 5th wheel.
I guess now the trick is to add up all the crap I go racing with and add that to a 30 ft trailer/ 5th wheel.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that 12,500 trailer weight is "weight distributing", not "weight carrying". To safely go up to 12,500lbs, you will need some sort of weight distribution system on your trailer (ie Equalizer hitch). Weight Carrying rating for that hitch is probably somewhere around 5-6000lbs.

Have a family member with basically the same trailer you mentioned-30ft tag-- man that thing is a bear to pull and has about a million pounds of tongue weight. If it is in your buget go with a F'ver or a gooseneck.I moved to a fifth wheel camper a few years back and plan on never owing another bumper hitch camper.
