newbie here going to buy 2001 F250 SD

I was thinking of buying a 2001 F250 SD. Truck looks to be in good shape. It has 225,000 miles the CF report is clean. It also comes with a bumper to bumper 1 year warranty. This is probably the main reason for this truck. It drives and runs good.

Any other issues I should be consitering? I'm new to diesels but I want a truck that'll last another 125K or more.

Any comments welcome to help my make my mind up.

Also with the transmission if I buy the truck should I get it rebuilt or wait for it to have problems or since it doesn't feel to have any problems, can I up grade the torque converter? or I'm I looking to deep into it. I just don't want to be stranded.

Sorry buyers jitters

Thanks
Jeffersonwsm

Welcome to FTE. It all depends on how well the truck has been taken care of. If it's had proper maintenance, then for not much money and the help of FTE, you should be able to take care of any issues that come up yourself.

Here's a few things to look at when buying a 7.3 http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/52...questions.html

The most important in my mind being the plastic tube that goes from the air filter back to the turbo. If you find lots of dust in there, be cautious. If it's clean in there, the biggest hurdle is out of the way.
