Question '92 f150

While driving down the road, I noticed smoke coming from the back of my truck, when I pulled over to check it out and found tranny fluid spraying from the tq dust cover, now I am assuming that the front seal on the tranny blew and the fluid is hitting the tq and causing the spray, but can someone tell me...can a seal go that quick? or should assume the pump has a hole in it? b4 I break it down, I'd like to have an idea of what to look for this is a 1992 f150 4x4 e4od tranny, had it rebuilt about a year ago and has been running great, and out of the blue something happened and is causing the rappid leak of fluid. I would just like a second opinion of what someone else thinks it may be...Thank you
