fyrbrd is starting off with a positive reputation.
Duck,
It may be nothing, but how thick is the oil? Are we talkin cold maple syrup, or warm syrup? If the oil is too thick wouldn't that affect the injectors operation? I didn't notice whether or not you checked the HPO pressure, what is it at? When it shuts down, are you noticing other indicators of possible electrical failure?

Keep us up to date...

The intake charge can get contaminated by that dead hole.
Keep in mind also that the pcm has the capability of changing
the idle tune as the motor ages. It does this to maintain a idle rpm.

IE: ex valve---The 3 cyl's that share the ex mani can fill the dead hole
and track to the intake of the motor. Think of it like how a gasser would run
with a bad egr valve. Now the intake track is contaminated along with the
pcm making adjustments trying to maintain a idle rpm.

Pressurise the dead hole (atdc) from the gp with shop air. Find the leaks.
It will give an idea on what is going on. (top or bottom end)

This is my keyboard wag.

How long does the truck sit before it will start back up? I'm thinking a relay is getting hot and shutting it off, then cools down and will allow it to start back up.

can we get a scanner on it? that would make things 99.9% easier to diag. its either the pcm not commanding fuel, the high pressure oil system failed, the fuel system failed or the base engine causing the failure. the scanner will either rule out the first 3 causes or verify which one.

i kow, i think the dead hole is a huge contributor as well but the pid data will give concrete evidence

Good call Ryan. The guy just ended up letting the truck go back to the bank. After all the work and searching for an answer I was informed that it was repo'ed. Nice, and the guy didn't even tell me. Thanks for all your help guys, and I'm sorry that I never found an answer.

Cody, I followed this thread thru to the end. I just think you (and everybody else that posted their thoughts for that matter) went way above and beyond. Sent rep's (first time-just figured it out) I really wanted you to get this one going for the guy-even if he just drove it like he stole it and fried the #7 hole due to his own negligence. I feel a little cheated not being able to help out a little. You must feel absolutely USED. So Again- I commend your persistence. You oughta go buy it from the bank for a song fix it and offer to sell it back to the guy (for a tidy profit) just for the satisfaction HA!

Na, I'd just like to put a fist in his mouth. I really went out of my way for this guy, and had to find out through a friend what happened. But, I look at it this way, he buys the truck for $3500 or whatever it was and the bank had to take it......he's got more issues than I can give him. His life is hard because he chooses it. Good riddence.

No worries. I'm looking at a truck for sale pretty cheap that all of a sudden one day just wouldn't start. Supposedly had it towed to a local shop that did a compression test and found #8 hole is dead. They said either a hole in the piston or a bad valve. Never got it running and gave up and now he's selling.

Guess it was running just fine, no smoke, no miss, no using/burning of oil before. He said the hpop level is good, fuses are good, etc. He did say that he had 1 injector replaced last year and is pretty sure the dead hole is the same one the new injector was installed in. Thought that was ironic.

Just trying to figure out what it could be if I buy it cause the body is good.

Man, I'd have to witness a compression check. If it were good, everything else could be fixed without motor removal.

wow that sucks to hear, after all the help that you gave the guy he doesn't even have the comon curtusey to tell you that you don't need to worry about it anymore. That's a low blow, and he deserves everything he gets.
