Removing chrome moldings/trim

I have a 93 f150 xlt and it has a chrome molding about 3/4 the way down the side, and it seems to be either double sided taped, glued or perhaps some type of fastening system, i want to remove it for good, i do not plan on using it again and im making this a project truck so i was wondering if there is a good way to remove it, i was planning on attacking it with a heat gun and see what happens, im planning on re painting, but id rather just do it cleanly and with the least amount of mess rather than messing around with it for longer than i need to

been some good ideas on this in the body/paint work sections-a few were heat guns being careful not to burn paint and -amazingly wd-40-check them out

Try using fishing line to break the adhesive seal between the molding and the paint.

just removed mine last weekend. first i tried heat gun. made a mess with the two sided type tape. Then i used a plastic putty knife and ran it back and worth while pulling mldg off. Worked great! a little lacquer thinner on a rag cleaned what little of the adhesive was left. Good Luck

i attacked it with a heat gun and just continually kept moving it as to not burn it, i used a sharp putty type of knife and heated the molding up and slid the knife along the back, once i got enough off i just used my hand (careful not to burn myself) and yanked it off with the heat gun, i got a little residual tape on there but im doing body work and paint so im not too concerned

i also tried the fishing line idea with the heat gun, and the fishing just melted, and it would not do it without the heat gun

no more ugly trim!
