Oh - and a slight update on my motor situation

I came across a freshly built motor that a guy on another forum I am on has. It has forged pistsons, fresh bearings, a performer intake, holley 750 carb, ported heads with a new valve job, gear drive timing gears, etc.

I was originally gonna just throw that 86 motor in and run it for a while and rebuild later, but after thinking about that (not sure how long it would last) and the cost of rebuilding it when I would for a bit I think I might just grab this other motor.

Can you tell I change my mind a lot

New motor was a EFI motor although the guy couldn't tell me what year so I will look to see if it is an FT4E and maybe I will get lucky.
For those of you who don't want to run an HEI-DUI, we offer an excellent Duraspark Distributor:

Back up to the top with this one.

Instead of making a new thread which would just be another "tell me what parts to run on my 351w" I figured I'd continue this mess of a thread

So I skipped on the 90, EFI 351 and am sticking with the 86 I bought (or got for free after parting the bronco) for now. Parting another bronco made me enough $$ to buy some go fast goodies off a buddy
I also decided to not even think about the EFI stuff until I had this thing driving for a while.

That being said I am looking at cam recommendations. The truck will be a play toy for the dirt but with some decent street use as well.

I will be running 35" tires, a c6 tranny and a gearvendors OD. Rear end ratio has not been decided yet but will most likely be a 4.56 or 4.88 - possibly a 4.33.

Below are the parts I have

Here's what I grabbed from my buddy:
1) Trick flow heads (P/N is TFS-51410002 = Twisted Wedge) got them for $500 and he said they have about 5K miles on them and they came complete with SS roller rockers. The downside is the rollers are 1.6 not 1.7's

2) Crane adjustable dual row timming chain with roller thrust bearing

3) JBA shorty headers. They had a dent in one tube right at the collector and the EGR port was welded shut. I will most likely be cutting them up and using the flanges (nice, thick 3/8") and colloectors to make my own set of long tubes. I will be running 2.5" or 3" true dual exhaust with an X pipe most likely.

4) I also got the complete setup to convert to serpentine belt seeing as I had slight motor stand failure (crappy chinese one and the weld broke) and the motor fell bending the crank pulley.

5) Last he threw in a fluidamper balancer for a 50 oz. offset. I know only the 302's had this but if it is easy enough to just run a 50 oz. flexpate to run this I will since I have one sitting here...
Since I'm here - I'll ask. Is there anything more to this - or would I need a different crank or other parts?

Then I hit craigslist and eBay. I grabbed a Milodon oil pan and pickup for $100. The guy said it had only been put on the motor and then they noticed it wouln't fit in his mustang. It supposedly was never ran.

On eBay I got a Edelbrock Air Gap intake manifold to go with the 650 - 4 bbl Holley carb I have sitting here.

That's about it so far.

The truck will NOT be a high RPM screamer as much of the dirt stuff keeps us in the lowere end of the RPM band and torque is more important than high end HP. Oh, and compression will be kept LOW as it may need to run on Pemex (Mexican gas) once or twice in its life!

All the above being said - anybody got a cam recomendation?

Sounds like a plan!

Oh - and just so I can contradict myself...

My buddy just PMed me and let me know he has another Ford coming in so he needs some quick cash. Therefore he is dropping the price on the EFI setup he had been trying to sell me on for $1200

Price dropped to $750 and I get:
stand alone SDS - 8E computer EM-4 Specifications
Edelbrock EFI truck intake for 351W (port matched to the Trick Flow heads I bought from him already)
BBK 61mm throttle body for truck intake (port matched to intake) Ford Ford motorsports 42# injectors, set of 8
Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator for stock Ford rail
distributor with 8.5mm wires
all sensors
crane ignition and coil

The base map programmed into the computer was his bronco that he used for the same things I'm gonna do. Seems like a deal too good to pass up to me
