Good Lord! That is pretty bad as far as gunk goes. I would think that if that oil pressure sending unit is broken yet you still get a pressure reading, there has got to be another oil pressure sending unit somewhere. I know that there are 2 water temp sending units on te 300, one for the engine's computer and one for the gauge, I think. And yes you CAN adjust the valves/rocker arms, in fact it's easier/faster to do it with the engine running and the valve cover off, which apparently is pretty impossible with an EFI 300. I don't know what that broken sending unit is called, though.
I think the sensor in front of the distributor is the anti=knock sensor, not sure of its true function and the other one I don't know.Anti-knock sensor may move timing when spark knock is present.

the oil pressure sending unit is not broken?, it was tight but coverend in oil from the oil leak, so i cleaned it and coated the connection with di-electric grease to get a better connection
damn im alsmost thinking about swapping in a carb 300 instead of rebuilding the EFI since i did this project...there are way too many sensors and emissions and wires and crap in this thing...and i know where an early 80s f150 sits with a 300 carbd and a 4 on the floor...what kind of MPG you get with the carb 300 and what tranny do you have?

thanks for the info man...think that could affect fuel milage in any way?...i guess it would if i had spark knock and the sensor was not hooked up to adjust the timing to fix it...

What kind of milage does a carb'd 300 get? depends on gears and tranny as you probably well know, but most people, including myself, see crap milage with the stock carter 1 bbl carb. People who have swapped to better carbs say they can get a lot better milage. By crap milage I mean like between 10 and 14 mpg. That is why I plan on ditching the 1 bbl soon and getting a decent carb on there, tuning it up good, and am shooting for 17-18 mpg highway. I have an NP435 "farmer four" 4 speed with granny low tranny.
And yeah I know my dad also has a '95 f150 300 six EFI and when I look under his hood and then look under mine I go "damn, there must be ten miles of wires and hoses in that 95's engine bay. I like the simplicity of the carb. Though in the carb'd 300's bone stock form it is pretty freaking slow compared to the EFI.
yeah my EFI gets roughly 10 MPG...though my sending unit sticks so its not totally accurate
i was thinking about ditching the Mazda 5 speed for an NP435 (my mazda is SHOT)...i like the gear ratios but im skeptical about how much no OD will hurt the already chitty MPG of my 300...with the wind around here 5th gear doesnt get used as much and so far i havent noticed much difference in MPG...the OD gear is 0.80:1 and 4th is 1.00:1 so i dont think it will make a big difference...im gonna go play with some calculators and see how much it changes the RPM at highway speed
any way back on topic...
for the last few days my oil pressure gauge reads "R" constantly...
but here it gets wierd...i drive to work park the truck for 8 hours or more and get a few drips of oil...i drive it home and park it for ONE hour and there is an oil puddle 7" x 3" on the ground...i think i created the first intermittent oil leak LOL...parked downhill in my driveway, leaks like a siv, uphill in the drive way leaks like a siv, on the street where it is sloped leaving the driver side of the engine higher than the pass/side it leaks even worse and the leak is from the driver side!...park it at work where its is a very slight downhill and it hardly leaks if at all ?????? WFT!!!!

what f*** the?!?!??!?!?!?!? Sounds like your engine needs a tune up, an EFI 300 should do a lot better than 10 MPG. My dad's f150, same year, engine, and tranny as yours gets about 17 MPG highway (so he claims, but I think 17's about right) and it's a long box super cab. About the oil leaks, I don't really know, mine does the same thing some times, you'll think the leak is gone and then it starts up again and then it doesn't, who knows? I have a leaky pan gasket, when I was overhauling my 300, I made the mistake of buying the FEL PRO 4 piece oil pan gasket. piece of crap. I may have told you all that or some of that before, I can't remember, but NEVER buy a 4 or 3 or any other than a ONE PIECE pan gasket. Mine doesn't leak quite enough oil to call for another pan gasket just yet, but one day.....
yeah i dont know...im not worried about it too much as long as it has oil in it, it just makes me and my truck look bad when it leaves puddles of oil everywhere i go
my uncles 96 300 I6 mazda 5 speed gets 22 MPG (he claims) but he also says thats what it gets with 33" tires...he hasnt recalibrated his speedo so i know damn well thats not right, but he thinks it is...but with the stock size tires it gets 17-18 MPG
judging from the sludge i found it would benefit from more than just a tune up...the wires and plugs have less than 15000 KM on them (9400 miles) so that should not be a problem...it was always around there though, i bought the truck with 324000KM on it, it got 12MPG i put new plugs and wires and fuel filter within 1500km of buying it and it made NO difference...now its worse than it was...much worse...so is the oil leak...
this truck needs an engine rebuild and a new tranny lol...i think im gonna put a NP435 in it, unless i can find a zf, and i havent in my last 5 months of looking so i probably wont...but i know where there is a NP-435 and 2 T-18/T-19s...so im set for four speeds LOL
it will be another 6 months at LEAST before i can afford the rebuild because i need the 4x4 for the winter...i have 2 2wds for the summer so i can do the rebuild then

(hehehe, notice how you said "wft" instead of "wtf" up there, and I said "what f*** the" to make fun of you? oh well, doesn't matter.) I would keep looking for a ZF bud. Granny 4 speeds are good but they will make your truck slow and possibly be hard on your engine, I run over 3000 RPM at 70 mph on the freeway, not good. that's why I stay in the slow lane on the freeway and everybody passes me, I would rather do 60 mph than blow up my freshly overhauled engine.
3000 RPM at 70? what rear end you got...4th gear in the M5OD is the same as your (1.00:1) and theres no way im turning 3k!....well i dont actually know since in dont have a tach, but it sure as hell doesnt sound like 3k....
like i said, around here with thewind we get i can only use 5th some of the time lol, cant keep highway speed going into wind around here in 5th gear...i want to hold out for a zf but the M5OD sounds like its about to explode and i cant trust it so i want it out ASAP

I'm pretty sure I have a 3.55 rear end and I have 31 inch tires out back and 30 inch tires up front. I bet you have like a 3.08 rear end? I actually want to "gear my truck a little higher" by getting an actual matching set of 32's or 33's. I need a matching set anyway, winter's coming and I will need 4x4 on the road. Mismatched tires will make my axles work against each other, bad for my drivetrain and will probably cause some spooky handling. And a more aggressive tread pattern of the mud terrain variety won't hurt
Sorry about going on about tires and gears and stuff.....
nope mines 3.55s i bet you got 3.73 or higher LOL i too have 31's (all four though) soon to be 35's...and if i keep the 3.55s with 35's it will drop my RPM by over 200 @ 65 MPH LOL
well i dont know whats going on, but just now i notice my front driveshaft, tranny, t-case and pretty much everything else is completely coated in oil, not sure if it was always like that and i just didnt notice or if it just got a lot worse, but she leaks a lot im gonna clean the hell out of it and get some oil dye so i can see where it is comming from

That sucks I feel for you man. I hope you get it all worked out and get those leaks fixed. No, I'm pretty sure I have 3.55's, the little tag on the back diff says ".55" on it, the rest is hard to make out. The front axle clearly says "3.54" and some other stuff that makes no sense. I should probably look up what the door tag says the axle ratio is.
I know, you just look up the ol' axle code in your manual and you learn what you got.
I know I don't have a LS, I have a very bad case of one tire fire! I want to fix that soon too.
