rear end gear change

i have a 96 f 350 dually with the 4.10 gear.
thought about changing it to either a 3.55 or 3.73. what are some thoughts about doing such a thing.
i do not use the truck for pulling stuff as much as i use to but do not want to get rid of a paid for truck of this caliber..lol

I had 4.10's and swapped axles and have 3.55's now. Wish I would have kept the 4.10's. The highway mileage is better with 3.55's but it doesn't pull as hard anymore.

3.73's would be perfect IMO, but I wish I still had my 4.10's

If you tow at ALL on a fairly regular basis I'd stick with 4.10's or go to 3.73's

Mixed driving I get between 16 and 18 depending on how heavy my foot is that week. If I baby it I can get 18mpg city/highway

Highway I have gotten 22mpg

I am getting my PHP Chip this week so I'm interested to see if I get any mileage gains with that... (If I can keep my foot off the go-pedal long enough)

Ok. I have a bullydog chip on my truck and get between 15 and 16 in the summer. I am guessing that if I went to the 3.55 I would jump to about 20 to a gallon.

A good friend of mine has the 3.55 gears and he gets 20+ MPG. It still has decent pulling power just not as much as mine with 4.10's. LOL

If I ever decided to re-gear I'd go with 3.73's

If I was gonna swap axles again with another stock OBS axle I'd get one with 4.10's

I was thinking about trying some 3.73's. I feel the need to know how well it will pull 16,000lbs.
