Shaker Intercooler?

Looking through Diesel Power and saw a ad for Jobe Motorsports and their "Shaker Intercooler"

it mounts above the engine and the hood is cut out around it. The idea is to have the air charge closer to the turbo and to keep heat from the trans cooler and radiator away from it.

Anyone seen these before? Sounds like it would work...

Looks kinda cool too! Jobe Performance - Intercoolers

If I had something like this I would want to put a hood scoop over it to protect it.

Yea I like it too. I have been thinking about Ram Air on my truck for a while but the bigger performance gain might be less pipe for the intake charge.

Why not mount a cooling fan on top of it so it always has cold air blowing over it? HMMMM

I like that idea too! I've seen the import tuners actually run Nitrous nozzles in front of the intercoolers to cool it down also without putting it in the fuel

Nitrous is a good idea, but it is expensive.

Maybe if ICE was blown across it. IDK

Might work in the winter time! Just throw some snow up in there when you need some extra power! LOL

I think I might try to fab up a intercooler like this when I get around to it. Something unique anyways! Should be fun. I just need the Spyder and a intercooler, and boots. I can get the pipes fabbed up and make a bracket to mount it.

it already has a fan under pulling air down through it!

Isn't the fan a clutch fan so it should only be spinning when the temperature calls for the clutch to lock up. An electric fan would be pushing outside air over it all the time at any speed.

copied from their web page!
The intercooler kit comes with a 16in. 2,200 CFM SPAL fan that is welded to the under of the core. This ensures a guick cool down and cooling effects even at low speeds. The fan is not really needed.

I didn't see that. So I guess they already saw the benefit of drawing in more air. Then in my opinion the only thing needed is to cover it with hood scoop to make it look finished. Thank you for pointing that out.

Looks like a pretty clean setup. I'm not sure it's worth that kind of money, but one could easily fab something up. The question is, would there really be that much improvement with this design?

Just because the fan clutch is not locked up does not mean it's not drawing air.

too much money for me, although I wouldn't mind having one and I have a spare hood to cut up. I do agree it would need a cover on it, I don't like the cut out look of the hood.
