Tires and Wheels

I went to the store today to see about getting new tires and changing from a 15" to a 16" rim. I found that the usual 33" BFG All Terrain tire I got for my 15" rim was now going to be about $100 more, for a cost of about $230 each. Is this normal? The guy told me the 15" rim is the most common so the prices really go up with a 16" rim.

I found this very strange and told the guy I would think about it, which means I would post the question here to the Ford group, the ones who know best.

well the 305/70/16 is about 50 dollars more than a 33/12.50/15. Why do you want to go to a 16 in wheel anyhow?

I found the 285/75-16 to be close to what I have now. That is what the guy at the store was talking to me about.

As for the rims, they need to be replaced, that isn't in question. They are 8.5" x15" rims, I thought I might like to go to 10.5" x 16" rims but I may just go with 10.5" x 15" rims instead, since the price for the tires are so different.

Nope., no change in brakes, just tires and wheels.

After some research, I am leaning towards sticking with 15" rims, seems to be easier that way.

Never knew that there was actually a 10.5 wide wheel.Wouldn't a 10 in wide wheel be cheaper and a little easier to find?

You can run the 285s on 8 inch wide wheels if you are still thinking about switching, alot cheaper that way. Also might try calling national tire and wheel (ntwonline.com) as they will cut you a deal on price if you put together a package with them.

I would keep the 15 inch wheels. The larger diameter the wheel the more expensive the tires get.
