Break change during a change

ok so im replacing my front rotors and pads and my rear drums and shoes at the same time, while one bank account goes dry haha. but i noticed that there are two different sizes ford rear drums and shoes one is a 12X2.5 and the other is a 12X3. mine is a 12X2.5 and was wondering if i could change to a 12X3 becuase im thinking bigger is better and i will have better stopping power if i go bigger. A i right? and can i do this go from 12X2.5 to 12X3?thanks
