pulled the trigger on a...stancor & synthetic!!!

if you've been thinking about it, wow, do it!!!!

last winter i had a few days where i couldnt start my truck when it was really cold, i'd have to plug it in, go in the house and wait, and "MANY" days where i'd have to turn over the engine more times than i liked due to cold temps. it would start but after i felt like i was beating the hell out of the starter and some other parts..

well about 3 weeks ago i woke up to a 32 degree morning, went outside and..............nothing............nothing....... ........finally, varooooooooom!!!! and decided i wasn't going to go thru this winter again fighting the cold, plus my new work location makes plugging her in almost impossible.

now i don't know if my gpr was bad or not but its 10 years old and has 116,000 miles, so.................... i got a stancor and some 5w-40 rotella synthetic last weekend and..wooooooow!!!!!!

this whole week the early morning temps have been low 30's and "i can not believe" what i've been missing. my truck starts up with a vengence!!!
one cycle of the "wait to start" and it fires right up.

so if anyone out there living in cold temps has been thinking about either of these..............pull the trigger, its worth every penny!!!!!!!!!!!!!

firedewd is starting off with a positive reputation.
I did the same this summer kind off. I had my knee replaced so couldn't do much of anything. My GPR had died again last spring so I ordered a stancor and my oldest son stopped by to put it in for me. Then my brother was borrowing my truck to haul lawnmowers around and knew I wanted to switch to synthetic so he had it done for me at his expense. Between the two upgrades the beast has started much better already this winter.

I replaced my faulty stock GPR with a Stancor this past spring. The Stancor works great.

I just went back to dino (Delo 400LE 15W40) motor oil from Schaeffer 5W40 full synthetic. I haven't noticed any difference. It has gone down into the 20's at night and the truck starts right up after a glow. Purrs like a kitten.

Won't hurt anything. Just try not to mix the two (say put a quart of 15-40 into a truck that has syn in it).

Sorry. Carry on.

Probably coincidence, but I developed a leak when I switched to Schaeffers. Schaeffers is $21/gal. Delo is $10.50/gal. I was changing the Schaeffers at 6k miles and would have to add three quarts by then. I'll change the Delo at 5k miles. I switched to Delo and haven't noticed any issues. Basically pissing more money away than necessary and we need tax write-offs for 2010. So I'm not tearing into the turbo and up-pipes until next year.
