Looking to buy....what problems to look for while shopping?

Well, I was almost a proud owner of a 2000 Excursion Limited in green with a 7.3 turbo and 4x4 for $6000 until the wife of the owner decided to keep it. So i'm sitting here with $8500 in the bank and trying to find another PSD 4x4 Excursion. What things do I need to look for when checking them out? Any major problems? Certain leaks to look for? 7.3 better than the 6.0? Thanks for any help you can give.

There is a known weak link in the early trannies up to mid 01 I think. The rest are just general small issues that come up that can be costly to fix. ESOF hubs that are stuck, brake rotor warpage, wandering on the road. In general if your happy with a price and are willing to spend some time to do maint there are still lots out there. Good luck.

It's old news around here, and often debated to no end.... but if you change your criteria
and consider a 6.0L diesel, make sure you view an OASIS report on it before buying.
