Winter in NC? OMG...This is winter? I ride my Street Glide unless it's raining or snow on the ground in the winter months here. We had about a total of 6 inches of snow on the ground last year. So to me it's really not a winter. Now...show me some of those 100 inches of snow I've seen before and the 15 feet snow drifts and then I'll worry! LOL

Not sure about the mods I'll do on the truck. Right now really just want to do the basic keep up stuff. Oil, trans fluid, cooling system, stuff like that.
Welcome to FTE CombatMedicF-250 First thing, your truck isn't a Harley... So you came to the right place and even though we have 100's of oil threads, one more time will not hurt. I use Rotella Synthetic with no problems. Like most have mentioned, API ratings are a must to buying the correct oil.
Yea I understand abotu the API rating and will follow it for sure. Talking about oil...let me ask about Oil Bypass systems. How good are they really? I understand they will further filter our oil and add about an extra quart. I've done them on gas trucks before and was always warned about the dreaded "oil shear" and the viscosity going to hell. What do ya'll think about that?
After I do the keep up maintenance...I'd like this to be a first mod. Anyone?
Nothing wrong with an extra filter added to the system. Yes, a diesel will shear oil, so keep it fresh and clean especially with the 6.0L engine. The injectors are driven with high pressure oil.

1st and cheapest mod I would do to your truck would be a coolant filter. Under 200 bucks including shut off valves and extra filters and only takes 1 or 2 beers to install. Unless you want more?

OK...I guess my question would be, can a coolant filter kill my warranty? I like the idea...I really do.
Tell me about yours please. Where'd you get it from? Also, how about the oil bypass units...who has them in the forum?? Is there a particular brand to stay away from in these two kits?
I even saw a transmission filter kit. Anyone?

there are so many impossible situations as to what can or can not cause warrenty issues its not even funny. I would say for the most part however that a coolant filter should not unless it is the source of the reason for the failer. for example the hose brakes to the filter and you overheat the engine that would not be covered. If you had an injector fail I dont see were a coolant filter would matter.
So far as I would view it at the shop... I would just fix the truck and overlook that.
