Gates is giving away free testers to check for wear in serpentine belts.

You fill out the app on line, and you can indicate that you don't want any promotional follow ups.

I imagine that they hope to sell a few belts -- fine with me.

Have no idea if it's any good, but Popular Mechanics liked it

I am betting it is a thin piece of plastic with some marks on it. It would be very interesting to "measure" a brand new non gates belt and see if they say it is bad.

I just got around to watching last weeks episode of 2 guys garage and they showed this gauge. It was a piece of plastic in a v shape that measures the depth of the grooves in the belt. Rather simple really.
