Intercooler...

Man it's been a LONG time since I've done any work to my PSD. Kinda had the urge to see what's new out there. What is the easiest I/C to add, is it still the '99 unit ? What else is new in the "squeeze more power out" world ? Here's a quick highlight of what I've done to my truck. BTW she just rolled 173K w/a tired stock tranny !!!

Hypermax HOT chip (1500* pre turbo on a full throttle pass)
Beans stage II injectors
removed the EBPV
downpipe w/ 4" straight pipe
H/P oil balancing line
K&N in the stock housing (opened up and smoothed the inlet)
5" lift w 37's
4.10's

I did all these mods early in '99. It saw daily use for 7ish years, now it sits in the shop most of the time. It's been a GREAT truck !!!

well you could start by switching your tuning perhaps.. i have heard that hypermax is fairly mild on their tuning. just for EGT comparison.. my truck is still tuned for stage 1's. i have stage 2 DIY injectors in it w/ an intercooler, 6637 intake, 3" dp, 5" stacks, etc. my truck pulls around 1600* in a 1/4 mile pass. so thats from 0-96 or 97mph.

have you upgraded the HPOP on it?????? that would also be a good upgrade for those stage 2's.

on the ICs. most ppl are still using the SD 7.3L IC, but there are quite a few ppl going to the 6.0L IC now b/c they flow more effiently than the 7.3 IC does. i would also switch that K & N over to the 6637 if it was me, but if you like your K & N cool deal. haha.

I have not upgraded the HPOP. I've been reading here about some upgrades, but at this time mine still works well so I don't want to pull it out.

Are the 6.0 I/C's harder to install ?

The stock HPOP cannot truly bring alive stage IIs, especially if they are 180cc. Another easy mod that'll help is the FPR shim. There's the 140 V idm mod. If your looking for a tranny, BTS has a good rep around here. Lots of people switch to electric fuel. There's also a lot of turbocharger options now.

I'm about to find out how hard it is to install a 6.0 cooler and a 4739 tranny cooler in front of my radiator. Got both and all parts just need time. It's gonna be a TIGHT fit for sure.

I forgot to list the FP mod, did that a long time as well. What is the 140 V idm mod ? I know I'm leaving a little on the table with myu current HPOP, but back in the day there wasn't any options of modifing them. Is there a detailed link on it ? THANKS !!!

you can get a SD hpop for pretty cheap i think, its a 17* instead of 15 and its supposed to help alot with bigger injectors

I just installed a used 17* pump and I'm not pulling codes no matter how hard I push her now. Used to pull codes all the time.

My dad put a banks IC in his 6.0 SD which means I have a free 6.0 stock IC. I sure would like to put it in front of my truck some day. how big of a job is it? theres already the radiator, condenser, and trans cooler out there. i looked in there and it doesnt look like it'll fit. has any one put the 6.0 cooler in their OBS truck? how tough was it. what kind of performance gains should one expect from doin this? seems like the whole nose would need to come off the truck.
