Got a question..

We got a 93 bronco xlt with the 5.8 351 and the AOD4 i believe. it has the overdrive switch in the shifter well anyway my question is if a 302 out of a 93 f150 will bolt in and the computer be the same. He has the other kind of transmission in it, dont have the overdrive switch. will this be a simple swap out and back in? do i need the computer from the f150? i got the parts truck lined up so i just want to make sure it can be easily done because the bronco is our only vehicle and we both work. thanks for any help!

Shane/Nikki

Nice job you now have yourselfa real solid and good looking truck. This thread is just the kind of inspiration I need to get me going on my body swap for my 74 highboy. Unfortunately even with doing a body swap I will have a good deal of welding to do. Your truck looks 300% better now.

The engine will swap fairly simply but you will need the computer from a truck with the E4OD transmission and the 302. Unless the truck you are getting the engine from has a manual (M5OD), the automatic is almost certainly an E4OD as well. The 302 also has a knock sensor that the 351 does not. Not sure if the wiring harness for a truck with the 351 still has the connector for the knock sensor or not. Kemicalburns will know...he's actually done the swap the other direction.

Kemicalburns has a good reputation on FTE. Kemicalburns has a good reputation on FTE.
what are you trying to gain? the 5.8 (351w) is a better motor for the bronco then the 5.0. for this to work you would need the entire wiring harness from a vehicle running a 5.0/e4od you will also need the computer from that same vehicle. this will also require a 5.0/e4od flex plate, exhaust Y pipe etc...

so even though it will fit the vehicle you mention as a donor doesnt have everything you need to complete this swap correctly. so explain to us why your wanting to swap motors so we can give you the best option which off hand would be to just find another complete 5.8 and drop it in place of what you currently have.
