crazy idea, 302 ford into 88 dodge ram
has anyone ever put a ford engine into a 70's-90's ford or chevy truck.. i have an 88 dodge ram 4x4 "i know i sined" but anyway it has the typicle dodge ****, wont run worth a dam or make any power at all even thou it has 35,000 miles on it. i cant take it anymore, first i had to replace about a half dozen relays, then it ran better but barly. now the fuel pump went bad and the ecm is acting up.. i aint gonna spend another 500.00 on this p.o.s 318 mopar sb. but the truck is rust free, paint shines nice, everything but the engine and tranny works good...
so being a ford nut, i went into my garage and uncovered my spare 302. it's a 5.0ho with just 30K on the clock... and i just freshed it up with new gaskets, oil pump and timing chain.. was gonna go in my mustang but changed my mind. anyway after a few measurments it seems with custom engine frame mounts and some block mounts from a mustang or ford truck i could make it fit easy, and a c6 tranny should be close and should bolt up to the np208 transfer case..
before i rip apart another truck i was wondering if anyone has done a ford engine swap into a dodge or gm truck.... just call me crazy if you think i am of my rocker with this idea.

Nope not crazy. For the era truck you are talking about and with motor and trans, it will be fairly easy to put it in the Dodge. You will probably need a custom drive shaft made up. As for the tranny bolting up to the transfer case, I dont believe that will be a problem, except the tail shaft might have to be changed for one out of a 4x4 trans.

As long as you never want to sell it, go for it. Personally, I find it distasteful when people swap motors and drive trains into a vehicle from another OEM that do not belong.
As for the 318, maybe visit Allpar has Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, and Jeep car, minivan, and truck information or another site like it to set up the 318 properly. I just finished a marine 318 install and the thing now hauls about 2-3 mph more then it ever did. If possible, I would go strictly carb and install the Pertronix kit.
