6 leaker intercooler into a 7.3

greetings ,
is there a "trick" to getting a 7.3 intercooler out ? it seems like it wants to go but I dont want to force it . I saw on some auto show were they just pushed the radi foward and slipped it out and dropped the new one in ? But let me guess - only in tv world

Thanks
John

I had a zip tie to secure my block heater cord that i missed in the darkness with limited lighting

That's about all I had to do to get mine to slip in - The real PIA was having to relocate the tranny cooler in my 02.

You will need different boots to mate up to the 6.0 IC. And I didn't have to touch my radiator in order to remove my 7.3 IC. Took off the bar that goes over top the IC and took off the hood latch and all that then took off the IC boots and it popped right out.

The RDP boots are nice. I've got a set of red ones on mine and I love them.

I've only got the 6.0 intercooler installed right now. I've got a 6.0 trans cooler but I haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

I assumed since the title of the thread is "6 leaker intercooler into a 7.3" we were talking about intercoolers which is why I suggested the boots.

Riffraff is a great organization to deal with. I've gotten pretty much all my parts through him except for my Intercooler which I bought from an FTE member, my DP which I bought from Jody himself, and my trans cooler. Everything else is Riffraff stuff. At least as far as modifications.

When I do injectors I'll be getting Casserlys though Riffraff.

By the way I'm Pete.

For my 6.0 IC install I actually had help from another FTE member. My trans cooler lines were in the way so we just snapped the bracket that held them in place and pushed them down a bit and it slipped right in place. I assume you're talking about transmission cooler when you say oil cooler? That's the only thing I can think of that would be in the way of your IC.

Yep, that tiny little cooler is the trans cooler.

All I had to do on my late 99 was push the lines going from the trans to the trans cooler and back to the trans down a bit and it all slid into place without any other modification.

I don't know if it's different on other years as I've only done it on mine and I've never seen a 6.0 IC done without a 6.0 trans cooler on any other years.

I had to push mine down to make the intercooler fit. The 6.0L I/C is taller, so it hits the lines on the top of the trans cooler. You can unbolt it and drill new mounting holes for it to make it fit.

But it does fit so much better if you upgrade the trans cooler from a 6.0L truck as well. It bolts right up, but it doesn't interfere at all with the intercooler. Plus the 6.0L trans cooler is massive compared to the 7.3L one. Much nicer for keeping trans temps in check.

to those that have upgraded to 6.0 IC, is there a noticeable difference in EGT's and is it a worthy mod?

IMO, it is worth it if you get one cheap, but I wouldn't pay more than about $150 for it though.
