Hello everyone, new member + C-6 issues :(

Hi, i believe ive been a member before but not sure. Anyways I just bought an 89 bronco with the C-6 from a fellow Airman I work with. He said it shifted fine but started leaking...bad...from the front.

Kemicalburns has a good reputation on FTE. Kemicalburns has a good reputation on FTE.
so whats your question? if its leaking from the front sounds like the front seal is shot. lucky thing is a rebuilt C6's are cheap. and a built C6 is well under $1000 so if the tranny has many miles on it that might be something to consider since that current tranny leaks alot it will probably require a rebuild anyway.

I'm only an e-3 so money is an issue, so front seal maybe? just curious of what signs of death to look for. He said it was a bad leak from the front, and ive never taken a C-6 or any other automatic apart, how hard would it be to replace the front seals?

Also a fellow Airman E-3 stationed at McChord. A front seal in the C6 is easy to change once you get the trans out. You have to drop the whole thing pull the torque converter out and the seal in right behind it. The issue may be why it went out. if the front of the converter snout looks burnt you may have a bushing or something that went out. good luck with it

The bushing are inside the transmission. If the front of the converter looks burned I would take it to a trans shop after you get it out and have them look at it. Ask your local hobby shop guys if they know if a good one. McChord is awesome. I am from Texas so I feel your pain about being at Holloman. Are you special forces or something? I thought they were mostly there. I am on the fire department.

I wish I still had my small block C6, I'd give it to you, but I scrapped it awhile back, as I needed space.. bah
But as mcyclonegt said, they're available pretty cheap, and craigslist is great.

I scrapped my old one cause i needed space too!!! And what a pain in the @$$ that thing is to get out of there,

i got one at a junkyard for $250 And if anyone needs C-6 parts like tcase adaptor n whatnot, i got parts.

but i got it out and saw the crack, the bell housing basically fell off. Uh how do you do that to a C-6!!!

by not making sure the mating surfaces are clean and by using the bolts to pull the two together. It puts undo stress on the case. the pins must be lined up also.

Gotta love some people, what I usually do is degrease then use a light grinder till i see smooth n shiney metal. Torque converter looks to of been replaced, whoever did it must of really messed up, which is hard to do cuz after all a C-6 to a 351 is pretty simple
