3:73 to 4:10

Thinking about gearing down (up? )to 4:10`s from 3:73 . I do drive alot I`m pushing 290k on a 01. I tow 3 trailers, one of which is a fifth wheel.I know I`ll lose mileage, how much? No problems to speak of, I just want more grunt power. I haul alot of wood in bed. Do I need to change pinions as well? I know squat about gearing. Well what do you think?

valves is starting off with a positive reputation.
Not enough change with 4.10s. Go to 4.30. When you buy gears you get a ring and pinion. You will also need need a bearing kit for your axles.

If you have your tire size and trans ratios, you can plug them in here:

Novak Conversions - Gearing & Gearing Math for Jeeps

You can figure your mph per 1000 rpms, or rpm difference at a specific mph.

You can expect to pay over $500 for gears and set up. Do you have to change pinions? Yes, they come as a set. You must replace bearings that are that old also, or you are seriously wasting money in labor that will soon have to be repeated.

If you have no experience (any your pinion question confirms it imo) then you need to find a good shop to do this.

Beechkid is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
typically for each .25 ratio change, the rpms will cahnge by 300 rpm.
