66 F-100 Cruiseomatic 352 Engine

How many qts. of transmission fluid should my cruiseomatic hold. The reason I ask is when I got the truck the speedometer was laying on the ex pipe and had burnt the casing into, I fixed that. So some of my fluid was gone when I got the truck due to the hole in the cable. I didn't think to check it at that time. My transmission was going of of gear at times, so I stopped at the local transmission shop and he said I was about 2 qts. low. I put 2 qts in the transmission and it did fine, but I didn't check the level on the stick .The truck then was park in the garage for about a week and I notice fluid leaking around the transmission at the linkage and the pan gasket, and it leaked for about a week then stopped. I must have overfill the transmission. It seemed to leak about a little less than a qt. then stopped. Should it leak out like that? or do I need new seals?
I'm getting ready to change the fluid myself and will check the level this time.

Thanks
