valve adjustment on 240-300

i dont know how to adjust the valves on my 65 ford the previous owner told me he replaced the motor with a 300. but you know how that goes. all the pushrods are bent. and i tightened them down as far as i could and they are still clacking. im going to get new pushrods today but how do i adjust them so they wont bend again? is there a locknut underneath the rocker to screw the stud into the head farther? do i need to grind the studs off the bottom? idk! how do i know if my motor has solid or hydro lifters?
