i was wondering if anyone has ever looked in their owners manual and seen the part about "priming the fuel system"? and has anyone here ever actually seen a factory diesel in one of these fords? was it only for sale in foreign countries? military? what kind of diesel would it actually have been? ford?

That would have been a Ford 220 diesel, available in the P-series trucks.
Ford would probably have let you special order it in a F-100.
The 330 Ford was used in the larger C and N series trucks.
Several Cummins and 2cycle Detroit diesels were offered, but only in the larger trucks.

ok, i remember the manual saying something about the p-series trucks. i rebuilt a 330 ford once. i thought it was a 352 but it wasn't. 460 in a 66 ford f-100?? wow. thats about all i got to say bout that. how far can you smoke the tires before it gets traction?

Actually, I have a 2.75 geared ratio for better mileage, so it doesn't lay rubber well. Besides, with 28 spline axles, any attempts launch it could break the axles shafts. Since Ford isn't making those anymore, I figure I better keep the ones I have!

By the way, did you rebuild a 330 diesel or a 330 otto?
The 330 gas engine is an FT design.
But Ford also produced a 330 diesel.
I know little about the 330 diesel, maybe NumberDummy can chime in with more details.

If you look at your "Ford Truck Operators Manual" you will see it covers more than just F100's.
This is why that diesel engine info is there.
Diesel engines were not available in F100/350's, not even as a special order.
There's far more to it then just installing a diesel in a F100/350. The suspension is different, the trans is different, the wiring is different, the whole tamale is different.
The 1951/75 P Series Parcel Delivery is different than any other Ford truck. Ford only sold the rolling chassis complete with powertrain, the bodies were installed by others.
UPS, Bakery companies, motorhome manufacturers and etc used this chassis thru 1975. The P Series was then replaced by the Econoline Cut-Away.
First factory installed diesel engine in an F350 occured in 1983, using the "Cornbinder" 6.9L.
IHC was near bankruptcy in 1979, Ford bailed them out. The deal was that Navistar (IHC's new name) would supply Ford with diesel engines.

Banjopicker: The axleshafts are obsolete, but there's quite a few available used.
B7TZ4234A .. Axle Shaft -28 Splines / Right/Left is the same / Fits all: 1957/67 F100's with 9" rear axles.

Hey, Thanks for the details on the axle shafts too!
However - I am using a '76 rear axle brake setup on my '66 axle housing.
To make the offset from the wider brake shoes and drums work, I am using '68 - '72 axle shafts.

ok im sorry about the f-100 owners manual thing. i rebuilt a 330 fe block truck engine. it is the same as a 352 with a smaller bore. 3-7/8 i believe instead of 4" the 2.75 ring and pinion is a good ratio. i have a 89 f-150 with a 5,9 cummins and a 2.73 mustang gear rear 8.8 it will cruize 110 all day long at 2600 rpms in od. i am building a twin turbo 12 v p-pump that will rev to 4g. i don't even want to test the top speed when i get done with that! i hope my rear end holds up. if it don't it will get a dana 80 with 3.08 gear. idk if im going to get a 5 lug wheel to fit on a dana 80, but im going to try

The 330 is an FT engine, not an FE engine. The 330 engine uses a different block than a 352.
There were two different 330 FT engines.
1964/67: The 330 MediumDuty crankshaft is the same as a 352.
1968/72: The 330 MediumDuty crankshaft is same as a 360.
The 330 HeavyDuty crankshaft is the same as a 361 (FT) crankshaft.
FT engines (330 2V M/D; 330 2V H/D; 361 2V; 391 4V) share some internal parts with FE engines. But the blocks, heads, flywheels, harmonic balancers and etc. are not the same.
