I ran Uniroyal Liberators in 285/75R16 and they lasted just over 60,000 miles. They were quiet on the highway, were rated for 3400lbs each (D load rating), had good traction (though I'd sipe ANY tire that didn't come that way) and cost under $700 mounted, balanced, ... TOTAL. Get 'em at Wal-Mart.

There is no difference in any of these tires from brand to brand when it comes to size. Choose the brand you like and go with it. The bigger ones will obviously cost more. They will usually be no better for every day driving but bigger looks cooler. I am running 285s.

You can also go up to 305's. The only difference between a 285 and a 305 is 1 inch of width. 285's are 11" to 11.5" wide. 305's are 12.5 inches wide. Of course as Mike said, youwill pay more for the taller tires.

Is your truck a 4x4 or 2wd
I guess what we really need to ask you is what are planning on doing with the truck? Off roading? Hwy driving? towing heavy?

Negative. 305's are still 33.5 inches tall just like 285's. I ran 305's for 7 years (3 different brands) before I ever leveled my truck. I never had any rubbing issues at all.

Thanks Brandon!

So if 235, 265, 285 and 305 are the width size of the tire, all of them would be the same height, correct?

And if so, could I not put a pair of 305's on the front of my dually to give it a more aggressive look without messing with the gearing ratios of the 4X4 or the spacing of the 235 rear duals?

My apologies to stroker870 for the blatant hi-jack.

To get overall tire height you need to look at all the numbers on the tire size.
You have tire width which is the first number. 235-265-285-305 Then you have aspect ratio Whig is a percent of the width as sidewalk height. So you will typically have an 85-75-75-70 respectivly. Then obviously rim size. So the smaller the first number the largerhe second or third has to be to keep the same height tire. So a 235-85-16 will be about the same height as a 265-75-16. So these numbers are in millimeters so do the math and convert to inches. 265x.75x2=397.5 then divide by 25.4=15.6+16 = 31.6" tall. And a 235-85 is 31.7" tall. A 285 is a little taller at 32.8 and a 305-70 is 32.8 vs 305-75 at 34". Bla bla bla. I have nothing to do at work, I'm sorry.
Anyway. Go fort he 285. It's a common tire you can get a spare or get it fixed easy.
If you wanted to stagger your tires front and rear you need 285-75 rear and 305-70 front. But he 285 is typically too wide for a dually and the tires rub on one another which is bad. If you could find a 305-65 then you could run 235-85s rear which will look nice.

I just put on a set of 305/70r16 Kumho AT's. Love the tire, I went with the 305 becaue the 285's had a slightly different sidewall design even though they would have been a better fit on the rim. I guess now I need to find an 8 inch wide wheel because the outside edge of the tread isn't touching the road at all!

I don't think any of the factory Superduty wheels were ever 8 inches wide in the 16 inch diameter.

I put 285/75/16 on mine. At the time ride hieght was stock and they rubbed the mud flaps at full lock. I was told going with 305 wouldnt be smart on a 16 inch by 7 wide rim.. I believe one member said the outside of his tire isnt touching pavement. Im happy with the 285s. And 305s gives anothe inch or so of width. Its hard to believe that wouldnt rub the leafs at full lock but from reading another members post I gues not. Ive since leveled the front end and have no rub on flaps.
