There are two types of gear drives, noisy or quiet. If you have ever heard a noisy gear drive they all pretty much sound the same.

Other than the noise there is no real benefit on a street driven truck for it over a double roller. They sound cool but won't make it go any faster.

Cloyes makes a gear driven timing set but not sure about for the 351m. I have been told that more vibrations are transfered from the crank to the valvetrain when using this design over a chain or belt. Dont know if there's any truth to that or not. I have never heard the sound that everyone speaks of, but it must be cool, and would be interested to hear.

The GM 2.5 liter "Iron Duke" engines I used to own all had timing gears, and they always had the same distinct hum. You can line up ten different 4 cylinder engines with one Iron Duke thrown in, and blindfolded I could pick out the Duke every time. For whatever reason, that sound has stuck with me.

The old 406 International Red Diamond six that I have now has a subtle but unmistakable whine to the timing gears. Kinda neat actually, when combined with the almost nightmarish rumble of the exhaust.

I had one in a 400. I got tired of people telling me "sounds like you have a bad power steering pump". I wouldn't put one in with out degreeing it in.

Degreeing the cam into the crank, to the cam mfgr's specs. I've put a few Pete Jacksons in and they always have come up retarded somewhat.
