Need Heads!

I am currently rebuilding a 390 out of my 71' Ford F250 and got the news from the machine shop my heads are to far gone, they can be fixed but I would be better off with another set, does anyone out there have a good set of 390 heads for sale, mine have C8AE casting number, standard truck head, but Im open to others too. Thanks

In the end it might be cheaper to just by some remans from a local supplier. Used heads that he will reman will cost you 50.00-80.00 and then whatever he charges to get them ready to go. If you have a local pull a part consider it, but against the cost of off the shelf'ers it's likely a toss up. With the only plus being him standing behind his work on the pull a part items.

I got two sets I'd give you, but shipping from Idaho will negate any savings.

Sorry.

Well it depends, what kind of heads are they, they good enough to bolt on or need some minor work? I do live in North Carolina though

C8EAH - These are still on an assembled 360. I swapped a guy a 302 for this engine for the block so I could keep my 390 running. I heard it run before pulling and there were no weird internal noises, but didn't pay too much attention since I just wan the block.

D2TEAA - These are off and were in my neighbor's shop when he bought the house. Gave them too me.

The D2TEAA set look to be in fine condition. I would run them after cleaning them up, lapping the valves and seats, replacing the seals, and checking clearances. I imagine the C8EAH set would want the same treatment before being installed.

Like I said, their yours for shipping if you want them. I would build a small crate for them. Origin zip code for shipping research is 83644. Let me know if you want pictures and I can post some this weekend.

I am looking towards a solid 410 build in the future and have some machine friends who would trick out a set of heads for me. So let me know if it is a possibility? What part of Idaho? North?

I live outside of Boise. Let me contact my brother, they were planning on heading down for Thanksgiving. If he is, I'm sure I can get them to Spokane. Possibly to your door. Sometimes they go through the Tri Cities, others through Lewiston. If he not coming, I'll let you know and start building a mini crate for them. Do you want one, or both sets?

Both set have your name on them. Both sets also have the exahust manifolds bolted on. Do you want those as well, or do you want me to leave them out. Personal opinion is the manifolds are nothing to write home about. I will take a bunch of pictures tomorrow and get them to you so you can see what you are getting.

Did you mean Buhl, ID? It's south of Twin Falls about 2 hours East of Boise. I live west of Boise and can get to the Oregon border in about 30 minutes. Another thought is that I can grab the wife's car and meet you in La Grande one Saturday. Or some place like that.

I'll take the exhaust mainis too hard to get off at times. I know someone who has a cracked one. Thats it Buhl!! My uncle lived there and worked in a Ice house. I remember it being 110 out and going in there and lying out on huge blocks of ice.
Yeah La Grand sounds awesome too. I am willing to do what works for you. If thats the case we will have pick a time when Cabbage/Deadmans is passable.

BE Carefull, as Redmanbob stated. These heads had soft valve seats made for leaded fuel. Once the seats start wearing, (due to unleaded fuel) the valves and guides soon follow suit. The machine work\money is extensive to R&R the seats, replace the guides, worn valves, etc. It my be cheaper to purchase remanufactured heads depending on your machine shop price. I believe replacement heads are about $180.00 each from autozone. Used heads are a gamble as far as allready having the hardned valve seats installed.
