shift cables outer cover is broken, trash now?

I noticed the plastic, outer cover, of my shifter cable is broken all the way around. The "break" is fairly close to where it attaches to steering column . I tried to "tape it" (rig it) together but wife says doesn't shift back into park like it used to.

Is there an adjustment I can make in the cable itself ? Or do I need to just go buy a new cable?

I redid the heater core and think cable might have got crimped (broken) in process of removing dash and lowering steering column to the floor.

4.6 -V8 - 2 WD Ford Expedtion - Any ideas and or estimates of cost appreciated?

Great Forum- Great Help- Great people :0) Thanks again

Hmm...risk the truck rolling and causing an accident or killing someone because it didn't go fully into park, or replace the broken cable...hmmm...
