Well PinkyDemon, you should care, or not comment on things you don't know. Starting in 1997 MY the 5.4 and 4.6 engine was available in the f150 and F250 LD models. The OBS (old body style) F250 HEAVY DUTY and F350 Carried on with the older motors and the non intercooled 7.3. There was no 1998 model year heavy F250 or Superduty 250 or 350 of either Kind. The 1999 MY kicked off the Superduty lineup as an Early 99 model. Ford didn't anticipate the amount of confusion and overlap the F250 LD and F250 Superduty would have. After the 1999 model year, the F250 LD was discontinued, but the heavier brakes and axles ( I believe all F250 LD had the semi floating 10.5/10.25 axle), cooling, suspension, goofy 7 lug wheels and brake rotors carried on as the F150 7700, or heavy half f150.

The F250 LD could carry either a 4r70w transmission or a 4r100, so you need to do more investigation to even know if there is a POSSIBLITY. Sounds like you are guessing at a lot, regardless of what your friend told you. Is it 4x4 or 4x2, cab configuration, YEAR! Also, all Superduty models with a 4 speed automatic have the 4r100. This is SIMILAR but not the same as the E4OD trans.

aldridgec,

I tried to rep you for the "spot-on" information in your post, but I'm apparently in rep "time-out".

Anyway, you're "on-the-money" here.

Got him for you Marv. Those trucks were fairly popular down here. A local construction company used to order these F-250 LD trucks by the dozen for use in the field and they were great trucks.

I'm pretty much positive the F-250LD in 97'-99' has the 4R70W trans. This PDF tends to back me up. http://www.stangnet.com/images/stori...s/97-21-10.pdf

My neighbor has a 97'-99' F-250LD 5.4l they are out there and are basically an F-150 with a higher GVWR. Your going to want to put a 4R100 in a SD.

I'm not sure what part of the document supports that the F250LD only had the 4r70w. I didn't study it, but didn't see anything that popped out to that effect.

Unfortunately Alldata still thinks it's an E4OD in 97 and 98, which may be technically correct, I can't remember the exact year it changed over. As of 99 it calls it a 4r100.

Hmmm... so is my activant catalog. It lists the 4r70w and E4OD as available transmissions in 97 and 98 F250LD

Thanks Marv and John!

Well, we all don't know every little thing about these trucks, but in my long experience, I've never heard of a Light duty. The 7700 F-150 I have, knew a guy who had one. My bad, simple as that. But as for the lug pattern, I couldn't give a flyin' f***, because I've never seen a lug pattern indicate the trim level or engine type, aka, important things.

It's all good. But just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Like UFO's, bigfoot, elvis.....

Oh, and if you've ever had to deal with those dang 7 lug wheel's/rotors you would definitely understand how important they are! Otherwise you may be right, not really that important.

I currently have a 1999 f-250 light duty for sale. It has a 5.4l and a 4r100 trans in it. aldridge is correct in his post about the years and differences.
