RPM's drop and smoke comes from exhaust?

Talking about an 89 f250 7.3 stock idi. I've had the truck for 5 years now and noticed this problem for the first time yesterday. Hopefully ya'll can help. While driving down the road, the rpm's will drop slightly and then a puff of smoke will come out of the exhaust pipe and then the rpm's will go back up. This sequence happens over and over and seems to be worse at higher rpm's. I drained the water/fuel separator but that didn't help. I haven't noticed any fuel leaks. Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading.

Thats a new one to me. Hopfully someone will have seen this problem before. It sounds like a fueling issue to me. Maybe you have an injector going bad. Hopefully its not the IP.

Diesel Kleen or ATF , fill the filter and dump another can in the fuel tank you are driving on right now.

Sounds like the governor is starting to stick.

I will try filling a new fuel filter with injector cleaner and running it for a while. Hopefully, if there is something in one of the injectors, this will take care of. If not, maybe somebody on here can enlighten me on the this issue because I'm stumped.

Thanks for the replys.

Check your CDR and air cleaner too. I had a similar problem and mine wasn't getting enough air.
