Welcome to FTE.

I have a 1999 F550 stick as well and haven't had to touch the neutral safety switch yet.
You are talking about the clutch switch, correct?

Are you talking about the switch on the pedal? I removed mine from the clutch master, pinned the switch and zip tied it up behind the dash. The housing on my switch was cracked and was causing a annoying clicking sound each time you let the clutch out. Besides I like being able to reach in and start the truck without having to depress the clutch pedal.

Did that disable your cruise control?
I hate stomping the pedal every time, it makes me worry about the thrust bearing on the crankshaft having enough lube oil at the time, but at the same time appreciate the safety factor as well.

Very good question that I didn't think of!! I haven't tried the cruise control since removing the clutch safety switch. Will try the CC and let you know.

As I said the removal stemmed from the safety switch housing 'clicking' and my not wanting to buy a new one!

clutch safety switch

yes i am talking about the clutch safety switch, sorry about that. its on my ramp truck and i have to use the clutch to lower the rpm for the P.T.O. i have replaced the clutch safety switch 3 or 4 times already and i get tired of jumping the truck lol thats why i was wondering if i could bypass the start side of the switch with out unhooking the cruise control

Cruise control is dead as you figured. Didn't really think that one through too well! Looks like I'll be coughing up the $25 or so for the new switch unless anyone has some ideas.

I'd be fabbing up a custom bracket to enable the use of a far more reliable microswitch.

I was going to say: Why not just shut off the truck to engage the PTO, but it is apparent that you have more than one issue with the truck.

That's why I haven't done anything about it yet myself.

I'm still on the original pedal switches at 103,000 miles.
At this point in time and in this thread, I've decided that I'll just install a push button momentary on switch that bridges the starter safety circuit.
Instead of stomping the clutch pedal every time, I'll simply push the button and turn the ignition key.

This is the route I was leaning towards. Being a horrible electrician, do you mind if I ask how/where you bridge the circuit?

Edit: Also was thinking this would be nice for keeping others from 'borrowing' my truck.

It would be two of those wires that go to the clutch safety switch.
Which ones, I have no idea.
