Does anybody know of a headlight kit for a 2000 Expedition that has fog lights and high/low beam lights. I want xeon lights for all of them. If there is one where is the best place to buy them. I don't want the full HID kit just the xeon bulbs. Any extra input would help.
You have to buy heads and fog seperatly. IMHO your wasting your money with the "xenon" lights. HID just arent as costly as they used to be and you can see so much better with them. Most HID kits are plug n play anyway and only take just a couple of minutes to completely install. Ebay would be your best bet with ether option
Funny this thread popped up today - I was just about to post something similar.... I have a 2001 EB Expedition, and I just finished the headlight switch/fog light mod to make the fog lights come on in auto, parking and headlight modes....
Now I want HID's! I know ZERO about HID/xenon lights, except I want that 8000k cool blue light look on my Expedition now- Headlights and fog lights! I've seen lots of auctions on ebay for around $50/set for either headlight or fog lights... I'm sure quality come in to play - but like I said - I personally know NOTHING about these things, and would love someone to help guide my purchase decision, or educate me somewhat.
Is there a big difference between the $50 kits and the $100 kits I'm seeing on ebay?
Beside's the basic stuff that comes in these kits (bulbs, cables, balasts) what else is needed for success and proper installation?
Is it a good idea to get a spare set of bulbs right away?
How long do these things generally last anyways?
After basic installation, is there anything "needed" to make them function better or correctly? I saw a few instances where people talk about focus points, aiming, adjustments, etc... Obviously I'm looking for simple here....
What are some of the questions I should ask or answers I should know before attempting this?
Ok, I bought heads and fogs shipped to my door for $100. Ive had them for about 2.5 years now with ZERO issues. Mine came with bulbs, ballasts, and harness and everything else needed.
Let me also explain that Xenon and HID are 2 differnt things. HID stands for high intensity discharge and use no filiment. The light comes from an electrical arc between two electrodes in a xenon gas.
Xenon bulbs are usually just regular incandescent bulbs.
I've found a place locally that sells the HID kits for $50 a kit... I see some claim digital balast, regular balasts, etc... I just want to get the best thing possible, but don't want to have any issues either.
They can look neat in theory, but actually applied to most vehicles in a night time situation any and all blue coloration causes a very crappy intense beam to have to look at. The white is much more soothing to the eyes than that blue.

I'm just glad to see "douchey" being used in conversation. It is clearly under utilized. DB is also under utilized, but I think it is making a come back.

I've never had any oncoming traffic flash thier high beams at me because of my lights. Look at post #4. Those are my 6000K HID's in my lightning. I like the the 8000K as well but for my taste it's a little too blue. They may be perfect for you how ever the more blue they are the less light (lumens) output you get.
No, I think after reading this, I'm going to buy the 6000k ones now. All I ever wanted was a hint of blue - and I assumed the 6k's were all white, now I'm understanding the 5k's are white (no blue) and the 6k have the hint of blue I want... the 8k and above are obviously tinted... that's not what I want.. I want a faint blue tint. SO 6K for me.
Now I have to figure out which ones to buy... HI/LO... Halogen high, HID low, or the ones with the magnet in them that make the acrual HID bulb go up a little bit to give the "high beam"... digital ballasts vs regular ballast? slim ballast vs not slim ballast...?
I'm not sure if they come WITH the relay to pull power from the battery, which I'm told is the right way to do this, I think some pull power from the original headlight harness?
On ebay, seems like the choice is really the hi/lo ... I think you have to have the digital ballasts to do hi/lo, but I'm not sure
OH, and to add to my confusion... They're about $50 a set on ebay (give/take)... Here in Dallas there is a guy who will sell them $50 cash & carry, or installed for $75 a set. BUT they are NOT digital ballast, and NOT hi/lo --- only single (low) beam 9007 and H10 for the fog lights.
I don't know if its worth messing with the high beams at all or what.....?
