Probably never, or at least not before Ford's competitors do something like that. I'd settle for 450 lbs/ft of torque at lower (2500) rpm and 350-375 hp at 3500 rpm. I really don't care if the motor is tapped out at 4500 rpm as long as I have the grunt to move the truck in the rpm range I drive in and still get good fuel mileage.

I wonder what a tuner/exhaust/cai will do to it.

Personally, I'd be stoked to get an Ecoboost 5.0L and let Ford keep the 6.2L in the SD's.

If Ford intends to discontinue the V-10 in the future and replace it with the 6.2L, the may have an uprising or at least a great loss in loyalty.

Me thinks you underestimate the new 6.2L.

They say it will outperform the 6.8L, and I look fwd to when they prove it.

This is like when the 6.8 replaced the 460 and everyone complained then too. Find out I guess. Maybe I'm wrong.

Well sir, you have a good point and folks do normally resist change if what they have works. The V-10 works for the guys that didn't want a smoker but needed the brawn of one.

However, the V-8 will definately be a more versitile engine for Ford as it no doubt weighs a little less and takes up a little less space (lenght). I hope it works and lasts as long as the hard working V-10.

Well yeah it's a more versitile engine thats for sure. I don't see how it's going to perform better at pulling than the V-10 when peak torque is 20 less and it's 1k RPM higher. I think it can be better than the V-10, but it will pretty much have to have the same low end torque as the V-10, which I think is possible with all that tech and two spark plugs it might make 420 TQ from idle to peak where it shoots up to 434 TQ, lol that would be nice.

I still like the old 460 best for gas engines. Much easier and cheaper to work on and it had a lot more low end grunt and you didn't have to twist it so hard to pull a load. That engine could easily go over 200,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. One can only imagine what it could have been with today's engine management system and a better cam and heads. Of course the tree huggers would be having cows on the spot if Ford still used the 460.

Chevy had the 8.1 from 01 to 0? in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. It wasn't really all it could have been, but it is great for a stock engine, that can still use 454 performace parts. It was only rated as much as the 3V V-10, but I'd say the 8.1 had more power than what they rated it at.

A modernized 460 would be good, but you know it wouldn't be what people who say bring back the 460 would want it to be, because it would just that "modernized". It would no longer be a simple engine(well the long block might still be simple). It's the 21st Century might as well be glad we still have internal combustion V8 engines that still only get 5-20 MPG lol(yeah I know the trucks have a lot to do with economy).

I hope this new Ford motor is awesome and more reliable than the previous generation Modular motors(that will be a tough act to follow), and I hope it is more capable of being upgraded in every department from emissions to HP. I want to see this engine succeed, and be in production vehicles for at least 2 or 3 decades(and still be potent when it gets dropped from the line up).

Agreed 100%! The only modern engine that Ford has built IMHO that fits this bill is the 300. Granted, the 302 / 351 sibblings were around for decades but they rode a rollercoaster of reliability.

Yep, thank the EPA for that.

The new 6.7 is supposed to do much better. 'Course that's using a Urea system. Supposedly the fuel mileage is back into the 18-20 MPG range.

Still waiting to see what the EB si going to bring to the table.
