No trailer brakes?

2005 F350 w/factory brake controller. Have trailer lights, but no trailer brakes(auto or manual). No codes or blown fuses found thusfar. What next???

Ford shop manual says verify stoplamps operate properly then turn key to on with no trailer connected-set the gain to 10 on the controller and slide the manual lever to the left to see if LED's light up and that message center says TRAILER DISCONNECTED or CHECK TRAILER.Does the trailer icon light up red or green to show connectivity?

Do the trailer brakes work if you hook another truck to the trailer? If not, the trailer is at fault. If so, the TBC system in your truck needs to be checked out.

Most of the time the cause is in the trailer, but not always.

is the wiring on the trailer good?

is the wiring on the trailer correct (matches truck pins)?

are you using a 7->6 adapter? make sure you have the correct center pin (e. brake or aux)

On an '05, you might not have brake power output unless you are moving at something like 25 mph. There was a design change early on because of complaints about that.

Suggest you carefully take a test drive to confirm whether they work.
