77 f250 highboy power steering with 4" lift

Hi guys,
Still kinda new to the site, just turned 15 and saw a sweet 77 f250 high boy for sale w/electric ignition (no points!) p/s, p/b, 351m 4x4 with dana 60's front and rear i'm pretty sure. I was wandering if i wanted to lift it 4" what i would have to do to keep the power steering. I know i could swich to cross over steering but that would be a bit out of the budget or swap to a 78-79 power steering box, pitman arm, drag link, etc.

I was wandering if a Trailmaster Steering Block like such (1977-1979 Ford F-250 - Trailmaster Steering Block) would work for a while if i wanted to lift it 4" and keep the power steering? Would anything else have to be done?

Thanks guys!
Zach

You need to find out for sure if it's a High Boy or a 77.5-79 Low boy. For a High Boy, look for things like a low pinion front axle, short drive shaft in between transfer case and trans. gas tank behind the seat, 2 1/2" wide rear springs, etc.

yeah, i'm pretty positive that it is a highboy. The guy told me it was and in the pictures it appears to be a highboy.

you never know for sure until you look. Some of the best buys of my life were because the seller had no idea what they had. I.e a 52 ford f100 that the guy thought was a 46 i got for 200$ so make sure you roll under the baby and look around

yeah, i see where your coming from, here are some of the pics of the truck,(if i can find out how to post them), def. looks like a highboy to me and your right, you never trust the seller no matter how respectable he may seem.

Couldn't really figure it out so here is the posting URL.

Nice looking truck for the money. It's really hard to say from the pics but I think it is a highboy. I'm just basing that off the height and the front hub looks like the older style. I personally prefer the 77.5-79 over the highboy but thats just personal opinion. I actually sold a 1976 Highboy full time 4x4 to my uncle and I am going to buy it back from him to use as more of a beater truck after my 1977 F-150 is painted. Here are your pics. I honestly would not even worry about a lift.

thank you for posting the pictures for me. It does seem like a great truck for the money which is why i'm lookin' into it. Most would say not to worry about the lift but i would really like to through some 40in groundwags on there and turn it into a mud truck/daily driver and since 4" lift is legal in my state (theoreticly, or atleast it would show up on insurance that way. Bumper hieght would be way illegal) i figured a high boy would be the perfect truck. I'm just worry about maintaning the power steering because turning the 40x16.5 groundhawgs manually would not be a walk in the park to say the least.

Thanks for the responses!

It looks to have an in-cab fuel tank and crossmember under front bumper so it's a highboy.

I hate to tell you but that d44 front axle won't hold up very long with 40" mudders. You should look into a d60 front axle swap if you will be off roading much.

yeah, i asked the guy if it had dana 60's (i asked him what size hubs it had, 4" in the front is dana 60 and then also asked him some Q's about the rear, but he just kind of avoided it) and he said it had a dana 60. I'm not sure if he meant just 1 in the rear or what not. (i'm guessing 60 rear 44 front) I was planning when i get any truck that i will probably have to do a d60 solid axle swap because i seem to be able to find them realtively cheap used online, and a locked d44 up front is not gunna hold up offroad thats for sure!

Does anybody know if the steering box drop will alow me to keep powersteering if a lift is added?

Thanks for all of the responses so far guys.
