new truck, doesn't start

Hi, I'm new to the site. I just bought a 88 f-350 7.3 diesel it only has 96000 miles and it doesn't run. It just cranks. Fuel comes out of the port. The glow plugs seem to work. If you guys got any idea of what i can to do to make it run that would be great!

how do i bleed out the injectors, just disconnect the line to the injector? The truck hasn't been started in bout a year or so. The guy i bought from said that he jump it backwards so that might have something do with not starting? Also what should I do to it for maint. and stuff like the fuel/water filter? I heard I need to do something with the coolant, that it eats the block or something? Thanks!

did you test the glow plugs with a test light?
is it turning over good and fast?
do you hear it fire at all?
is your diesel fresh?
did you pump out the old fuel from the lines?
is your fuel filter new and full of fresh diesel?
does the wait to start light come on? if so,for how long does it remain on for,and do you see the volt's drop during the light notice?
congrats on your new truck! nice score!

like Joe says, hopefully its just air locked.

88new truck,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

First let me warn you about the starter, 20 seconds crank time is the max, then at least 2 minutes for the starter to cool off before cranking again.

If the starter gets to hot, you will need to replace it, and that are a bit expensive.

The other members have you going the right direction with their questions.

I put a new fuel filter on, starter cranks fine. The wait to start light is on for like 8-10 sec, then the clicks. Im not getting any fuel out of the fuel inject. lines that i open? So where do I go from there?

did you fill the new fuel filter with diesel?
how long did you crank it over once you replaced it?
(both questions are important.as where the ones asked above )

you may have a bad lift pump,or fuel selector valve,or a problem with the tank.

i would now test to see if your lift pump is working.
unhook the line that comes from the tank.(the other goes to your fuel filter,so there's no mistaking them)
the fuel pump is located on the passenger side/front of the engine down low.look down there, you will see it.
now, place a hose connected to the fuel pump, and run it into a full can of diesel.
try to start the motor.if it runs from this jug,you now know, your lift pump is working, and need to check the fuel lines/FSV/tanks.

How much fuel is in the tank selected?

Are you getting fuel out of the schrader valve on the filter still?

If you replaced the filter without filling it, you have a lot of air to bleed out.
No chance of firing until you have fuel at the injectors.

What transmission does it have?

here is what i would try to do.
plug the block heater in for a couple hours then go out and loosen atleast 3 or 4 injector lines about one full turn then spin the motor and my guess is you will hear it try to take of and fire.like dave said in a previous post no more than 20 seconds of cranking.then tighten the lines and my guess is it will pop right off.also make sure all the battery connections are in really good shape and tight

If I ever have a vehicle giving me starting problems, if it has a manual tranny I pull start it before I sit cranking on the starter.
Much easier on everything.

Its a auto, id fill the filter with fuel,i've open 4 lines and crank it for 20 sec, then let it sit for 2 mins or more . I tried this a few times. Still no start. I took the line off the fuel pump and connect it to a jug of diesel, still no start. The front thing that the lines go out to the injectors is leaking fuel, what is it, all the connectors have power goin to them and what should I do? I found out that the presv. owner jumped it backwards, if that would do anything?
