Bank 1 Sensor 1 Out of Range

My sister has a 98 Explorer that I put together for her and has lately been throwing a Bank 1 Sensor 1 Code for the oxygen sensor and I was wondering if someone could tell me which O2 sensor was the Bank 1 Sensor 1. Thanks guys.

Thanks I really appreciate the info. I'll have to crawl under it one of these days and see if I can get it out myself with my limited supply of tools at college.

Because you have a code does not mean that the sensor is bad, it indicates that the sensor can no longer adjust for gross error. You need to better diagnose the problem before throwing $$$$ parts at it.

What are the actual codes?
Did you clear the DTC's??
If yes, did they come back???

steve(ill) is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
i had same code on the drivers side of our 2002 last week. i crawled under to pull the sensor for inspection. pulled the electrical plug loose and saw a spot of corrosion on one of the 4 terminals. sprayed with WD40 and rubbed them a little, pushed in and out a few times and reassembled-- no code.. dont jump on replacement right off.

This is false. This code means the sensor is producing a signal that is out of range. If the computer cannot adjust for gross error, you get a lean or rich code instead. O2 sensor codes indicate faulty sensors, or damaged wires or connectors.

O2 sensors are maintenance items, replacing them is like replacing spark plugs. It doesn't matter if they are bad or not, once they get beyond a certain mileage, you just replace them.
