1994 F 250 IDI 7.3 Turbo Fuel Line Questions

My dad has a 94 with the IDI 7.3 turbo, E4OD, 4x2, Super Cab. The fuel line above the rear tank is leaking from what I assume is rust, but not sure. I was wondering if anyone would know what type of line goes from the switch valve to the tanks? From what I have gathered from my searching the lines are plastic with the quick disconnects. Is this correct? If there is a leak from the top of the tank would it probably be from the steel lines rusted coming out of the sender or maybe a bad o-ring on one of the quick connects? Any insite on this would be appreciated.

My guess is a rust hole in the fuel tank.

There is a vent in the top of the tank that has a hose connected that should be clipped to the cross member or bed brace near the front of the tank.

If that hose has cracked from age, when the tank is filled completely full you may get a leak there.
The nylon fuel lines are rather robust, and the connectors should not leak unless they were removed recently.

We will check that vent hose, thanks. I guess we will have to drop the tank to check that too then. So, the lines from the tank to the selector valve are the nylon lines then? There is no in-tank pump on this type of fuel system either, correct? These use the mechanical pump on the engine to feed the injector pump, right?

No in-tank pump. The only stock pump is the mechanical one on pass. side of engine.

Are there any known places where these will leak other than the earlier mentioned vent line? Do the lines coming out of the top of the tank where the plastic lines hook to rust out? I know I had that happen to a 78 F 150 before.

Anyone know where I can get the piece that goes in the top of the tank that holds the fuel sender, pickup, and where the lines kook to on the outside if I need one? I have been looking and can't seem to find any.

If you mean the fuel tank lock ring then rockauto.com should have them.

I was talking about the part that the lock ring holds in. The part that goes into the tank that has the fuel pickup and return lines. It holds the fuel level sender. It has the lines that stick up out of the tank so you can hook the plastic lines to it. I have had the lines that stick out of the top rust through from years of dirt and crap sitting around them on a 78 F 150 before and cause a leak.

Fuel tank sending unit, gasket and lock ring is what you will need.

Ford and NAPA both have them here.
