300 inline six riding on locked one tons

My good pal 85greyghost (no offense or negativity regarded towards him whatsoever, I greatly respect his comments and opinions) recently commented to me that I possibly might not be happy with a 300 I6 as my engine in my 1986 F250 if I add a dana 60 kingpin front axle and a full floating 10.25 inch rear axle and throw in a couple of detroit lockers and get in to some serious offroading. I think it would be bad@$$, as far as I know it hasn't been done (much) before. I think Ford might have made some 300 powered f350 4x4's from the factory. A 300 in a 1 ton offroad platform? I just want feedback, opinions, and whatnot on this. what do you guys think? (if your in to four bying or anything like that at all)
I would try to increase the engine's power as best as I could with my budget, but I can't promise that will be anything more than the usual offy manifold, 4 barrel, EFI manifolds. I definately wouldn't have the cash to "build" the engine.
Or is this a dumb idea? Or is it even that big of deal? feedback apprecieated, thanks in advance

9.ford.5 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
whats wrong with a 300 and 1 tons? its been done with much success like everything else with the 300...you dont even need to build the engine just to run 1 tons...that wont change a thing, only tire size will affect it and anything over 35" tall i would suggest a gear swap...

the 300 is great crawler engine because it makes it power at low RPMs, this means you can get the power to the ground before the tires start spinning and break traction, this is perfect for rock crawling and deep mud

one day i might also go this route but only if i start breaking axles on a regular basis...but if you do this take lots and lots of pictures cuz we wanna see!

Yeah what he said! though ever notice how I have no pictures I'm technologically retarded all I know how to do is type Now the only thing really stopping me is having the time to do it and I need to find a dana 60 somewhere. BTW 9.ford.5 I really like your truck.(pretty bad a$$) I would probably be fine with half ton gear but I figure I already have a 3/4 ton might as well move upwards, besides, putting in the d60 will actually be easier than putting a 70's leaf sprung 44 in my truck, different frame widths. we'll see though but I am definately considering this, though I have yet to even do the carb/offy/EFI manifold swap.
