Has anyone heard of or used instant-heat gps from SSDiesel Supply? They claim that they don't swell, the pictures look impressive. They also claim that they supply the military with thier gps.

I have been doing some research. It looks like SSDiesel is selling gps made by WAP Inc. out of Indiana. They are a dual coil plug made here in the US. They make gps for tractors, big rigs and many other diesel engines. I wish I could find someone that has used these plugs and what they thought of them.

How long have you had them in your truck? Are they the dual element instant heat plug or a single coil? I went to WAP's web sight and they look like a good comp. with good products. Hopefully some others will chim in here. I lost a bid on Ebay for a set of Motorcraft plugs by a dollar. They hadn't been bid on in seven days and in the last 10 min. someone out bid me by a dollar, boy was I mad, I could have had a set of 8 for 50 dollars.

Ran 080s (the stock drop in replacement) for a while and eventually a manual switch left on too long caused ALL of them to loose their tips in the engine. That was the event that forced my to rebuild my engine. I got these in a mail order from MWFI thinking they would send me beru plugs.
I tested an 088 (this is supposed to be a dual coil) and it started swelling right around the 9 second mark. After 23 seconds it let out a little puff sound and the tip finally ruptured and power stopped flowing. By then it was about 5/16" thick which could not have been removed from an engine.
I did read a lot of good things about WAP plugs including that they were made in USA (generally a good thing!), used for military contracts, used in humvees that have to be idiot proof, and so on. In the end they did not live up to the reputation. Maybe I had a bad experience or maybe it was a bad batch during that era but let me tell you there needs to be a large loaded gun pointed to my head to ever install a set of wellman plugs again.
My advice to anyone that is thinking of trying a new brand or type of glow plugs is to test them to really see if they are self regulating as they claim.
I did manage to burn out a set of beru plugs in similar fashion as the 080s (thanks to a deffective controller) and they all stayed in tact and came out in tact. The difference is the tip will rupture at pinholes instead of stretching into a baloon.

That is a 4500 dollar engine, and that is just parts and machine shop work not counting my labor, so no you will not buy that and a truck for 400 dollars.
When Autozone was selling off Motorcraft/Beru inventory I bought all they had in two stores for 1.99 each.
But if I needed to buy more tomorrow, I would not think twice about paying 50 dollars each.
I know exactly how long it takes to pull a head and reinstall it.
14 hours of hard wrenching for two people plus a return line kit, valley pan, head gasket and rocker cover gasket (200 dollars).

While we are on this topic (and because I am too lazy to go pull one right now), are the beru's (ZD-9) 6v or 12v?
Reason I ask is when I went to manual control I also replaced all of the wiring...each GP sees a solid 12v; I HAD 8 new beru's ZD-9's...3 are now dead - they lasted all of maybe 3 weeks, typically the longest duration on was 6~7 secs, longest was 12.
I read somewhere that the zd-9's were 6v, and if so i am thinking going to a good 12v plug may be more reliable
Thanks for the feed back guys. Your experianced with the WAP

based on my research,i will only be using motorcraft/beru brand glowplugs in my truck too.
there's not really any point to do anything else.
they last forever and a day if your hooked up properly,or know how to operate a manual plug.its doubtful all 8 are bad unless something is seriously wrong-in which case you would then test everything else before burning out 8 more anyway lol.
so for 10 bucks a pop,and what should go 200k-300k miles shoot.....you cant run spark plugs in a car that cheap hahaha.
dont be tight and try to save $ cus its gunna bite ya in the butt when it comes to swollen up plugs iv been reading.
some things you can save $ on.
glow plugs is just not one of these things.
(when you have a couple bad GP's,its not like a wear item, like a spark plug, and it means you should replace all 8.the others can go for another 100k miles! or more.just replace the bad ones guys)
