The OEM plugs are NOT TEMPERATURE LIMITING. They will melt if your controller applies voltage too long. The $21.15 ones can be left on forever without melting because they have a built in temperature limiting feature.

8 GPs @ 9.99 = 79.92 + controller @ ~ 150.00 = 229.15. OR 8 GPs @ 21.15= 169.20 + switch @ ~ 5.00 + absolute guarantee that the GPs will never melt again. Like I've said before, real cheap insurance.

Reason I ask is when I went to manual control I also replaced all of the wiring...each GP sees a solid 12v; I HAD 8 new beru's ZD-9's...3 are now dead - they lasted all of maybe 3 weeks, typically the longest duration on was 6~7 secs, longest was 12.

I read somewhere that the zd-9's were 6v, and if so i am thinking going to a good 12v plug may be more reliable

When they failed, did they swell up at all or did they just go open circuit?

whatever floats your boat. personally, i will stick with the MC/BERU the shortest i have ever gotten out of a set was 16 years.

that seems like real cheap insurance to me.
put in oem, and don't bother with them again for at least 16 years.

BERU offers 3-phase glow plugs of the GE and GN type.
what are these suckers made for, that use the same thread pattern as our idi's?

are these ones here, that you mention for $68 each the same as those basically?-oops.correction.thats $68 for a set of 8! coooooool.
Glow Plug - Military Humvee 6.5L

splicing new connectors is easy enough.
this is good stuff!
The 6.2/6.5 GMC engine uses the same thread, seat & depth as the 6.9/7.3. The military used dual coil temperature limiting GPs in the HUMVEEs.
