Straight pipe - eh, o.k. if your under age or live down south
Uh, WTF????
I have the magnaflow with cat delete, I am very happy with the rumble, and the nice whistle note when idling, or accelerating, or shutting it off.
I have seen a couple of trucks with stacks that you can tell are nothing more than straight pipes, they also billow black smoke whenever they 'get on it'. Im cool with mine the way it is, and I aint even painted the confederate battle flag on the roof yet!
I got the 4" MBRP minus the Cat, with the fat muffler - it is very nice, one of the best additions to the Ex thus far. Sounds mean when idling, turbo can be heard out the rear, and it rumbles like a beast when I mash the gas!! When cruising at 65-80 mph, smooth as a babies butt!!

Yep well neighbours arnt a worry for me nearest one is over 2 miles away. Im gonna get a new system as soon as i can, truck is still in Fords at the mo getting a couple of new injectors.
Fellas,
I am thinking about going to a 4" straight pipe as well. Main reason, is to lower the EGT's. Doing this has to prolong engine life. The only thing I am not sure about is how much louder it will be. How much louder is it inside the vehicle? Does it sound like your on a little cessna airplane? Or could you not tell a big difference. Thanks

It's really not a drastic change on the inside. The engine is louder than the pipe until you lay into it and even then it's not real loud. A gasser with flowmasters hammering it is a wee bit louder than your exhaust will be when you hammer it. I've got the 4 inch turbo back cat delete with a muffler and like the sound. It whistles at idle but you can't really hear it unless your standing on the passenger side. You'll love the sound trust me and everyone else. Your neighbors will gripe more about the engine noise rather than the exhaust.

Exactly, I like my neighbors...and we try to get along. They don't want me to come in or leave at all hours of the night. And I don't want to hear that "Hemi Heep" either. I figure when the Hemi has a heart attack I'll do my best to convert him from the dark side.
HAHA--liked that 6.0 whistle, did ya??? That's what a straight piped 03 turbo 6.0 sounds like at idle.......you should hear that monster at WOT. THAT will piss the neighbors off.

I live in the city...and a "quite" neighborhood at that; no WOT action on my road. I give the ol' Pavement Princess a workout on the on-ramps, passing the #$%^ that don't know how to merge at end of the ramp. A 4 year in the back screaming "show 'em the power daddy" doesn't help the issue either
the thing with these trucks and straight pipes or adding a muffler is really nominal until WOT.
The turbo basically restricts the open exhaust note found on a gasser that we all can relate to.
The only time you will hear a major difference is during WOT.
I find the no muffler system to sound cheap compared to a mufflered system and
during WOT the 6 liter makes a note like the sound of a loud trumpet.
Now if you half the length of the pipe and do a side exit or a stack obviously it will be much louder (if that's what you're trying to acomplish).
But, to each his own.

I've run a couple of trucks that were straight piped...though the pipe was around 8" and they were "yellow belly". You could hear them for a couple of miles....and when you layed into the Jake Brake...let's just say you didn't run with the windows down. Guess you didn't get the responce you were fishing for?
Cat and muffler delete with stock system made mine alot louder. Sounds like a jet plane as my wife says sitting at idle. Getting on it makes it rumble and even louder when the fifth is attached. When passing cars I could really hear it while towing. It had to be loud for the cars I was passing. I do have a lot of resonating sound at around 50mph. I will replace it with 4in MBRP when I get some money together.
