Dana 44 problems

The passenger side wheel on my 44 locked up while i was driving and shortly after unlocked. It started making a slight noise like a bad bearing makes. Could a bad hub bearing lock up the wheel like that and then let it go?

It's a wheel bearing.

Is the bearing in the back of the hub on these axles?

They have inner & outer bearings just like a 2wd w/ a few more obstacles.

Are both the bearings in the hub or is one in the axle tube?

They're both in the "hub."

They're the same as Dodge or Chevy. Take the locking assembly off, take out the big inside ring from the hub housing & the small outside snap ring off the axle(if equipped), pull out hub locking assembly, take off the jamb nut, take out the locking shim, take off the spindle nut & washer. Then everything comes off.
